Anybody else feel slightly concerned witht he fact he hasn't even played 5 on 5 ball for about a year, and then all of the sudden he has to perform in a big playoffs game against elite competition(Brown/Tatum)?

I know it's a totally different role for him, but still a bit concerning.

I guess he'll just eat up Kessler Edward's minutes and see how he looks.

My concern is if things don't go right then we might be back to square one (mentally) speaking.

Well when he last played, he was outstanding (apart from the free-throws)-
2021 Playoffs = 11.9 points, 8.8 assists, 7.9 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 0.8 blocks, 2.3 turnovers, .621 field, 33.5 minutes per game, 12 games.
That is an outstanding "square one".
And frankly, Philadelphia only lost to Atlanta (in 7 games) because Doc Rivers chose not to put Ben Simmons on Trae Young.

If we're talking 15 minutes, no need for practice. He won't forget how to defend, and he won't stop being athletic.
I think the lack of practice would only be a problem if he's playing 30+ minutes, stamina would then become a factor.

Our biggest concern with Ben returning for the playoffs is him not being in game shape and getting injured. Whether it his back or something like a hamstring or any else long term. We still have an open window for the foreseeable future, I really do not want to rush him back.

KD didnt play for 2 years, was injured and was fine

Kyriue sat out half a season and was fine

I dont expect Ben to have much of an issue. how hard is it to play defense after a layoff? thats just physical tools and instinct.

That’s perfectly fine. It’s all about how his body responds and he could very well grow into his proper role if we can take care of the series leading up without him.

He won’t ever be at 100% until next season. It’s really no different to a 50% healthy Joe Harris in his role.
