I'm guilty of this. The Cavs were 31-20 and had 3.5 good players (Love in 23 minutes a game) and Garland is pretty terrible on D. Just seemed miraculous that they were doing that so I had Mobley first. I'm not so sure now.
Where's the D?

That's possible, but it seems dumb since there's such a solid gap for this season between the top 2 and the Jones/Cade/Wagner group.

The casual voters are going to go Mobley - the 2 votes given by Tencent media went Mobley, China had blacklisted the NBA for 18 months and a voter from Italy and then a bunch of nobodies with credentials. Smarter guys are going Barnes. Sadly I think it's going to tilt more towards Mobley with the votes we won't see before the winner is announced.

If Mobley wins it he should just hand the award to Allen cause without him Mobley hasn’t been great defensively.

He has a defensive rating of 113.1 without Allen. Compare that to Scottie having a defensive rating of 110.8 without OG (111.2 on the entire season)

We've already seen a couple third place votes for Mobley and Barnes (which is crazy). It could be like the season Magic won mvp over Barkley even though Barkley had more first place votes.

you need to compare with Precious on/off. Those are similar splits as Mobley with and without Allen.

Point is that Mobley’s defensive impact is overrated and a lot of the media voting for him are basing it on his defense

He should split the ROY trophy with Allen.

Magic comparisons continue as Barnes does not win ROTY, however, takes home Finals MVP honors to go with the Larry OB in his rookie season.

Got my FMVP bet at 250:1 8-)

I mean Bird was just straight up better than Magic until the late '80s.

James Edward III

First place vote: Cade
Second place vote: Mobley
Third place vote: Barnes
Outlet: The athletic Detroit
Media Market: Detroit Pistons

Definitely no clear agenda here :noway:

I seriously need someone to show me some stats for why Cade would be over Scottie. Worst on D, worst efficiency, not a great shooter. Like what's the argument besides "he got the dog in him" lmao

Cavs got the narratives on lock this year. Garland and Allen got all stars for their turnaround. But also Mobley is single handedly responsible for their turn around too lmao

Lots of the Allen over Siakam was "he's such a great defender" but also Mobley is better and second coming on KG so he gets RoY over Scottie.

Super close race for ROTY. I have a feeling that with the majority of old media vote still to come, Mobley will get enough first place votes to win. The upside though is that there has been a clear shift in the NBA podcast community towards Barnes in the last few weeks. I get the sense that they are finally leaning into the very real possibility of Scottie becoming a superstar and don't want to miss the opportunity to be able to say they saw it from year 1.

Mobley just went ahead of Barnes in 1st place votes according to that google doc spreadsheet, only one point behind Barnes now.
