Taking out the best player on the other team really is the best defense.

Just look at GSW’s record since Smart eliminated him.

What a joke.

Smart is 9th in DRTG.

On the CELTICS.

So your actual, sincere assessment is that Smart is roughly the 9th most impactful defender on the Celtics, behind Jabari Parker and Luke Kornet and Juancho Hernangomez?

Gobert, Giannis, Bam are all good names to mention.

He rests when the guys he are guarding rest, like Doncic, Curry and Tatum for example. Now guys like that will always put up numbers, but he does better than anyone else against the other team's best guard or wing. When backups come in for top tier or MVP caliber players, obviously the other team's offense will probably look worse regardless.

I can keep going but you get the point. Advanced stats are going to favor bigs who are elite rim protectors. But the argument for Smart is simply... no one can score on the man.

His last point in the tweet is important because often elite defenders are so all over a guy that the guy doesn't even think he should attempt a shot, and simply passes out. It's kind of like judging cornerbacks in the NFL by # of interceptions. Often times QBs don't even throw their way because the WR simply cannot get open.

This happens a lot with Bridges, though at the same time I do often see tweets like the ones Bisme tweeted regarding Bridges too.

Ulimately I think Bam or Green would/should be the choice had they played more games, but given the # of games, I think it's more wide open and there are 4-5 guys who I wouldn't have a problem with.

I don't think he's the 9th most important defender on the Celtics, more like 4th.

Honestly, it's just voter fatigue plus playoff disappointments keeping Gobert from winning the award this year. #1 in D-DPM, Defensive Raptor, D-LEBRON, DRAPM, and DRPM. The only advanced stat I looked up that didn't have him #1 was DEF EPM and he was #1 in that among all players who played at least 2000 minutes. He definitely deserves it.

Marcus Smart ranks 13th in DEF EPM, 33rd in D-DPM, 49th in Defensive Raptor, 52nd in DRPM, 64th in D-LEBRON, and outside the top 250 in DRAPM.

This was the only head to head matchup of Tatum/Bridges, I dont think I saw Bridges wven guarding him once, mostly a combo of Johnson/Crowder. Seemed like Bridges got Langford most of the night and played plenty when Tatum was out.

:noway: :noway: And Jokic is in the top two of such stats like defensive box, raptor, ect…..Bridges, who everyone loves, is 77th in Raptor. Its just another stat thats weighted to big men and influenced by teammates. Do you even know the formula for DRAPM? There’s a reason Smart gets so much praise from opposing players/coaches….

You think smart or bridges can't guard his man in the paint?

They cant guard a centre in the paint no. Just like Gobert cant keep up with guards on the outside.

Apparently most people think otherwise.
