East Won the Head-to-Head vs. West...

Post#1 » by sol537 » Fri Apr 15, 2022 4:11 pm

...by one game.

This is probably the first time in the last decade (or longer?) that East has had a better head-to-head against the West in the NBA. I guess the two conferences are finally equally strong after there was a Western power imbalance for so long. West is probably more top heavy while the East has more parity on it's side. The East playoffs ought to be quite good, especially with the Nets as the 7th seed.

Thoughts?

I don't think the East "won" anything.

1. There us no trophy for most games won by teams of a conference. Any suggested competition is contrived.

2. Of all regular seasons, this was the RS with the most disruptions and asterisks. Teams spent much of the year resting from the short off season and Olympic fatigue. There was a revolving door of injuries and absences due to Covid. It is impossible to draw any broad conclusions about conference performance when the W-L difference was only a couple of games in a season pock marked with anomalies.

Nice to see some balance in the league, finally. But i bet you it'll go back the other way next year.

The only reason of balance was because all of the star injuries out west.

The top teams in the East also had tons of games missed by their stars.

Just a momentary lapse of power in the west, nothing more.

Lots of injured teams/teams that didn't live up to expectations in the west this year. First names that come to mind are both LA teams and Denver. Between those three, if they didn't have to deal with injuries/LeGM, those teams would have better records and the scales would once again be tipped in favor of the west. There are more examples, but in the east, we had more teams exceed expectations than not. The only team I can think of that did objective worse than expected in the East were the Knicks. You could say the Hawks too. EDIT: Forgot the Nets, I'm an idiot. But the point still stands.

I wonder if this is also the first time 10 teams in the east had an above 500 record?

The Eastern Conference was hands down the stronger conference for this season.

Bucks the champs but Phoenix got the best record- so it’s kinda a push on the conf- both can make an argument for a being the best team-
Giannis, KD, and Embiid when healthy are 3 of the 4 best players in league but Jokic is the best- so 3 Best players out east but the BEST player is out west...

Honestly it is close - but they gonna decide which conference by awarding the Larry O’Brien trophy

It doesn't actually mean anything but I like that it knocks WC fans off their high horse
