Best possible thing for the Lakers just happened

Post#1 » by Chocolate City Jordanaire » Fri Apr 15, 2022 4:42 am

As a frame of reference I was born in 1961 and I have been a bullets and wizards fan my Entire sports viewing life. I'm talking 1973 Wes Unseld, Elvin Hayes...when Baltimore Bullets became Capital Bullets...Swept by Rick Barry's GS Warriors (shout out to Clifford Ray from Pete Newell's Camp 20 years ago).

I'm not a Laker fan, however, my dad was. Passed away in 2014. I was a UCLA fan when Bill Walton was there and a Lew Alcindor fan from my Weekly Reader 1969. Kareem as a Buck, my father was a Memphis native. I knew all about MGlockin and Lucius Allen. Still recall Cornell Warner and Perry. Oscar at the end with Kareem.

Bob Dandridge was a Bullets hero!

So, all that is to say historically speaking I'm old now....

This year was BEST for the Lakers. REST then "dust off and reload and recalibrate ".

If they have a round 1 lottery pick, geez, the odds are BETTER than for my beloved Wizards.

Last time LeBron "ran" a coach, the replacement for David Blatt...Ty Lue won it all.

LAL just needs perimeter defense and younger legs.

They're NOT ELITE but conceivably are justva trade away.

The Lakers don't own their pick.

This. Depending on where it falls, there are two different teams who could get it. But the Lakers won't get it under any circumstances.

The good news is...

Hmmm...

Wrong so many years, times, the shyt IS funny.

Perhaps the Lakers got some sort of compensation for giving away a lottery pick?

except that lebron is still there

i don't think people realize the change that is overtaking the nba, and with lebron in particular he has lost his appeal with stars because he guarantees nothing and his stats are concomitantly empty.

the lakers will recalibrate if they make the hard choice and trade lebron for assets,,, and who wants to bet me no team will give lal jack for lebron. young contending teams will not trade their youth for a lebron who will upset the apple cart as he always has, and no contender will trade when they already have what they need

and who in hell wants to take on the obvious elephant in the room,,,,, drafting bronny. bron will come as a package deal with bronny. yup, the lakers have to let lebron go as that is the only way to recalibrate. he's only stat hunting anyway. this was a pathetic year and why should anyone think it gets better???

LeBron will NOT get traded from the Lakers unless he chooses to be. he's earned the right at another shot with the Lakers next year)(should he want to take it). he deserves that as one of the best players of all-time. or, if you want to throw that out the window, deserves it because he literally WON A CHAMPIONSHIP in LA just two seasons ago

LeBron put up one of the best offensive seasons of his career (which is to say, one of the best offensive seasons PERIOD). his play on the court this season was not the problem

what IS clear is that LeBron can no longer drag ANY team to the playoffs by himself (which is something he did almost every year of his career, no matter how good/bad the roster was)

stating the obvious, the Laker's have a tough road to improve given their current roster and cap situation. they don't have a lot of options available and may end up wasting another year of LeBron's extended prime (much like the season prior to the Disney championship season). with that said, I still think a healthy LeBron/AD with a mediocre roster is enough to start next season as contenders

they will need to make some smart moves around the edges and bank on some vet players teaming up with LeBron again. they need to let their front-office make the decisions this time and need to hit on one or two trades to get back into the mix

It's always good to rest old legs and then rely on those same old legs that couldn't get you through the season in 3 out of 4 years.

Oh man if the Lakers owned that pick this entire thing might have happened. Yeah, Lakers were trying to win games because even if they win the lottery and get the #1 pick they have to ship that off to New Orleans.

Next time check http://Tankathon.com to see which picks are going where, it has detailed coverage of the race for the top picks and gives all the information about who owes who a pick. It also will give all the %'s on how high of a chance each team has to win the lottery.

Rest helps LeBron I don't think it helps Davis.

Also a new coach is a double edged sword. Is it somebody that will rejuvenate the roster or a yes man like Steve Nash?

I'm getting so crusty I just got into it at this local restaurant in Honolulu

Young girl asked me did I pay and my food wasn't even served yet or prepared

Reminds me of a song...(felt like getting rambunctious)

The good news is by the time I left that restaurant 2 of the ladies had touched me and asked me where I lived and all kinds of stuff that made me know I still got it

It is highly unlikely that the lakers will be out of the playoffs for an extended period time. I would also wager that they will get another championship before a dozen teams get their first. It just is what it is.
