Trae Young single-handedly brings ATL back and into Playoffs

Post#1 » by picc » Sat Apr 16, 2022 2:16 am

Down double digits in the 2nd half.

Starting center goes down against the biggest frontcourt (or one of) in the NBA.

38 points, 32 scored in the second half in a massive comeback

On the road in one of the best home arenas in the NBA.

Wow. Trae keeps finding ways to amaze me with his poise, floor game, shotmaking, and clutch play.

He wasn't even a liability defensively which was amazing.

He does enough that his team can protect him and help/switch appropriately. He wasn't even hiding, being put on Garland multiple times.

that was amazing. it's the #1 reason playing Atl in a single game elimination is bad news.

it's worth noting their defense, collectively they shut down the Cavs offense in the 2nd half, and it wasn't all bad in the 1st half either, Cavs were just on fire from 3.

Cavs defense on Trae was bad too, Mark Jackson kept saying trap him! They started about 2 min too late. I'm not a big fan of the switching defense craze in the NBA, especially if you're ending up with Markanenn on Young, like come on. Trae beat the traps once or twice too, so i'm not saying thats easy, but it's way better than what cavs did.

Well since someone else brought up Luka...

This incredible game by Trae wouldn't even be in the top 50% of Luka's 13 playoff games...

Thank fricken god someone besides Hawks fans sees and admits this. We have been trying to tell people all dang season that Trae actually puts in effort on defense this year. He is not great but he isn't the worst defender of all time people keep busting on him with repeatedly. He is below avg now and can actually make defensive plays every game or 2 that makes a difference and can be put on a lower tier offensive player without being a liability much now.

You might have became my favorite poster on this board now just because you said this and didn't just regurgitate the same ole same ole everyone says but actually watched him play a game and then judged.

No, no he isn't. Just because he can shoot a long 3 doesn't make him a steph like player. Their games are way different Trae if anything is much more like a Steve Nash with better scoring ability. He is more of a playmaker than Steph is but steph is a much much better shooter than trae is.

Well, say what you will about his game and his team, but there’s one thing you can’t deny — Trae has cajones. Some guys like the pressure, and Trae is one of them.

Not like anyone didn’t know Trae Young was legit. There was some idiot poster who said FVV was better lol. Traes passing is something else.

And he’s not the impact player like Steph is. So you’re right.

Nope, you can see in the MVP thread my discussion on the Luka/Jokic debate that I'm anything but a Mavs fan, but I recognize that Luka's unreal playoff performances so far against top wing defenders in the league are >>>> this performance by Trae, and that's not a knock on Trae...he was incredible tonight, but Luka is a level above.

I didn't even bring up Luka, Shock did, so I responded as a neutral fan.

I told people multiple times that Trae Young isn't the defensive liability that people think he is and that overall, the entire team sucks on defense but people wanna be dumb and continue to say stupid stuff because RealGM doesn't watch games.

Trae Young has issues defensively but his offensive talent is undeniable and he should be celebrated for that because no other guard at his size can do what he can do.

He was the second best offensive player in the league this year.

He really does. He's in the company of assassins like MJ, Reggie, Dwade, etc. No fear.

Good game, but where was this in the 1st half? Although Cavs had a good idea of trying to trap end of game, execution was horrible with 2 7 footers trying to contain a PG, I'll take a PG any day.

Now that Trae "willed" his team to thre 8th seed, it'll be more impressive if he can do the same in a series against the heat.
