Windhorst - "Sixers wouldn't give up Maxey"

Post#1 » by Los_29 » Sat Apr 16, 2022 1:41 pm

Windhorst - "Raptors were ready to trade Kyle Lowry to the Sixers last year but they wanted Tyrese Maxey. The Sixers wouldn't give him up."

At the 3:30 mark.

It all worked out in the end. We got Achiuwa who I think has more potential than Maxey. But wow, Sixers could've won a title last year with Lowry.

So many different rumours on this. What was the actual trade proposal from Philly then because I thought the Sixers initially refused to include Thybulle?

Realgmer were telling me Maxey was a dime a dozen score first guard who isn't at all valued around the league.

What a turnover rate though. Legendary.

Good question, I have no idea. It was probably as bad as the Lakers or Heat offer. My guess is just filler and maybe a late first round pick.

So Maxey instead of Precious of the bench basically.

It doesn't move me.

Yeah, I saw that. You keep hearing different things about what each side's position was. Word at the time was that it didn't even get to discussion of draft capital - the players coming back were the sticking point.

According to a Sixers fan on twitter, Sixers would only give up Shake Milton plus salary ballast. Windy is saying Masai wanted Maxey. Thy seems to have been asked for, too. But ... with Fred and Trent Jr., what did the Raps need Maxey for? Heat were clearly on Lowry's long-term radar, to join up with his good friend Jimmy while golfing all season, so Precious must have been our goal all along. He perfectly fits the ethos of the Raps.

Look at all Morey gave up to get Harden. A moral victory for us will be if Lowry visibly outplays Harden in the playoffs. Not impossible.

If you look throughout history, Masai has traditionally passed on guards who can't distribute and play defense. Undersized guards who can't do either is problematic. Wanting to get Maxey doesn't tell us anything, It just tells us that they wanted to get back something for Lowry.

But that's beside the point, the main point here is that people were constantly claiming that the Raptors turned down Maxey and picks for Lowry despite not having a shred of evidence.

I thought we wanted both Thybulle and Maxey and that was the sticking point. It was one or the other but not both.

Hindsight being 20/20, a Fred, Gary and Maxey backcourt would be pretty good. Especially with the tertiary playmaking of Pascal and Scottie.

However, as individual players, I think Precious has more potential than Maxey and will ultimately contribute more to the success of the team.

Given that Windhorst is a Klutch mouthpiece, he is probably just protecting their guy. He's definitely not getting anything from the Raptors. Last year he was on the radio here throwing a fit about how Masai wasn't letting anyone know whether he was going to come back.

imo this is all a big who cares. Kyle says he asked not to be traded. Others have reported that Morey wouldn't give him the money he was asking for, and he's a GM that has a history of reneging and rescinding offers, too, so I can't see Lowry actually wanting to play there.

This team is already so weak at center so I couldn't imagine how crappy we'd be without Precious. I'm sure masai would have signed another center scrub to add to the likes of Baynes/Len/Birch/Gillespie lol.

We also avoid Nurse playing Fred and Maxey in the backcourt together which would have killed our entire identity lol. That's the silver lining here.

Yeah I was going to come say the same thing. Precious is intriguing and has an interesting skillset, but ... Maxey is trending higher right now.

I give Maxey the advantage right now but Achiuwa has the advantage due to his raw tools on offense, defensive power, size and wingspan longterm however. Too bad Maxey is not 6-6.

I mean, I don't want to get into all the stats and all that on a sunny Saturday morning before a big game, but I think it's fair to say the majority of NBA fans right now would give Maxey the upper hand if they were asked. I'm talking about as things currently stand today. 3 and 5 years down the line, who knows.

Philly could really use some of the Lowry competitiveness to shape team culture. But I can see why Morey wanted to keep Maxey.

If Philly can’t win in the next couple years then it’ll be a clear loss on Morey. Lowry would have clearly pushed this team into true contender status.

I think the Raps would have done well with Maxey but Precious seems to be fitting what they want to do on both sides of the ball.

That's exactly who we should've been going for. They should've probably done it to secure a Chip but he's gonna be good for a long time. So I can see why they'd be hesistant.

Definitely. Maxey is the more impactful player. Right now. Precious' raw potential for down the line is exciting.

I'm happy tho that we did get Precious instead. That whole "no bench" thing really unlocked the playmaking of Pascal.

I would have been happy if we ended up with either Maxey or Achiuwa at this point.
We can argue who is better now / better potential... but at the end of the day they are both good pieces.
