Who would you rather build a new team around in today’s league?

tim because he seems a easier personality to deal with and probably less likely to leave

I agree, Duncan is a safer choice. Wilt likely wouldn't stay in your team for a long time.

Didn't expect to see you selecting Timmy ahead of Wilt, is all.

I have Duncan higher on my all-time list (although only for one spot). It's not that surprising, although I admit, they are quite close and the only reason why I'm confident is because of loyality and potential off-court problems.

I have Wilt 6th on my list, although he's very close with Hakeem and Shaq behind him.

I don't think you want a big guy who can't shoot free throws good.

I think we under estimate the positive impact modern coaching would have had on Wilt. Wilt's coaches either had him shoot way too much or way too little, they just didn't know what to do with a guy like that back then.

I think Wilt could fit very easily into the modern faster paced system. Wilt is like MJ or LeBron, you don't ever say no to that type of player regardless of your teams style.

Pure ability, it's Wilt, regardless of league. Pure ability to play in an environment like the Spurs 1998-2016, as well as the current social environment, it's TD.

I would be really interested to see what Wilt would be like in the modern environment. Fans treat players in a way which would have fed his need for adoration and validation, I think (except in losing seasons, heh). I think also the idea that he'd be socially permitted to dunk would be a helpful thing for him. He labored to avoid being known as a brute in his earlier years, before he joined the Lakers. I have to wonder how the mobility of his youth coupled with the "I'm gonna eat rim" type of mentality he had later on might have worked out for him. He liked to show off his skill, so maybe modern shooting coaches and what-not might have helped him manage more of a short J or something. Either way, a physical phenom with obvious instincts for rebounding and so forth. Would be a wild ride. Obviously not any kind of 50 ppg scorer in this league, but I think he would still be a really, really deadly tool to build around.

Same for me. Also when close you take the guy who took an organization that never won to multiple titles.

The Big Dipper vs The Big Slow!

Ahh, the usual inventing of reasons for dear ole Timmy Dee again.

Let's choose Timmy because ability to play in a social environment, whut? Good at free throws, whut? Less likely to leave, whut? Wilt more likely to have potential off-court problems, whut?

I'll take Wilt and watch him dunk on Duncan all game long as well as swallow him up in the paint. The simple addition of modern shoes to Wilt would make him that much more of a monster than he was back in his day... before we even get to talking about modern training methods / diets, learning from watching others that came later, improvements from watching tape, changes in rules, etc. Timmy couldn't defend the perimeter, at all. While Wilt would be like Gobert on steroids.

I can just picture Wilt reading through this thread, getting rightly annoyed by the reasons listed for picking Timmy over him, saying to Timmy the career equivalent of "there shall be no more layups made in this gym!!"... and doing it too, keeping Timmy to less than 10 Pts / 10 Rebs in every match they have while dropping 30 Pts / 20 Rebs on his dopey head. R.I.P. Timmy.
