why do celtic fans hate kyrie so much?

Then at the start of the following season he publicly insulted them and said they don't know how to win without him. And to get the attention back on himself he stood up at the Garden and told everyone he was re-signing.

Then we had a mediocre season and he said the RS doesn't matter and the playoffs should just start so he can be a basketball genius and lead us to a title.

Then the playoffs started and he had the most inefficient playoff series on high volume shooting of any NBA player since the 1960s. And after each game he promised to play better and pass the ball more, but didn't. Then he said "who cares" and visibly gave up.

Then he went back on his word to re-sign and bounced to the Nets. Which imo was the only good part of his Celtics career.

Then while in Brooklyn he continued to say unflattering things about the Celtics and stomped on the leprechaun and did the sage burning thing haha.

So yeah. Quite a few reasons.

This is a great summary. I don't think I've ever seen a player so overtly and consciously drag a team down like he did in 2019. The year they were as stacked as they've ever been.

Kyrie played great tonight, but you cant ignore the fact that the crowd is in his head. It will catch up to him eventually and thats why they continue to boo him. If he wasnt such a narcissist and stopped fueling the hate then it would go away. Horford didnt leave here on great terms when he signed with Phil, but you didnt see this reaction when he came back. Cleveland fans warned us of him when he was traded here and we didnt want to hear it just like Brooklyn fans now. Kyrie thinks he has the world figured out and we are too stupid to understand.

I'll add that Horford's departure seemed to have a lot to do with wanting to get away from Irving. That might have been true of other FAs as well.

And Horford was very popular in Boston, for all the obvious sports reasons plus his sister's Twitter stream.

It's a bunch of things.

1) The commitment to sign with Boston long term
2) Mailed in the playoffs
3) Stomp the logo

Those are the main three people quote but things like this were happening all year. Little comments trashing his team. Taking plays off and then blaming teammates. Big example is the game in Orlando where he went nuts on Hayward for giving the ball to Tatum for the last shot instead of him.

Kyrie acts like we want him back but by the end of the Bucks series basically everyone in Boston was praying he would leave.
