The Bulls would be fools to not pay him, he's got flaws but most players do. He's on Devin Booker's level. Who do you replace him with? Someone suggested Jalen Brunson and Bertans? That's a trash return.
Lavine is indeed a max player, he's playing injured right now but he's capable of averaging 30ppg on high efficiency, the Bulls need to create a better team around him and DDR, they have no shooters, no bigs, no 3D types. Bulls are the worst 3point team in the league in terms of attempts/makes.
Trade Vuc and assets for Ayton/Gobert or someone not afraid to be a big man.

If I’m the Lakers I see if I can sign and trade AD for him.

The Bulls were in first place with him as their second best player for much of the season. Then Lonzo got injured and Zach's knee got **** up (he needs off-season surgery), and the season torpedoed. A lot of the comments are clearly influenced by the Bulls slump without an understanding of what went wrong.
Zach's an incredibly talented, young player, who works hard, has a great attitude, and wants to be in Chicago. You don't let guys like that walk.

They both are free agents. Has there ever been a double max contract sign and trade in NBA history? Not likely.

I don’t see that happening. AD hasn’t been healthy and he is made out of glass but he fits better for them (if healthy). Hard to say how good he really is because he hasn’t healthy but I don’t see the Lakers trading him for Lavine in any event. The Lakers are in dire need of depth pieces and a wing player who can score and defend, quite the wish list.

Other options: Utah for Mitchell if Mitchell asks out though I doubt Lavine agrees to a contract there. Lakers for AD? Denver for Murray and some pieces?
LOL at the thought of Zach Lavine or any American approving a sign and trade to Toronto.
This doesn't make sense to me. Even though it might be true.
I'm sure 1 of the 100k Raptor fans we have on this site can clear this up for me but the way I see it is any NBA player that signs with Toronto would be 1 of the bigger stars in Canada I'd figure.
Like if Kawhi would've re-signed, I think he probably could've sold a TON more shoes. Americans aren't buying any of non-Nike/Adidas BB shoes, but maybe the Canadian fans might've in order to support the guy? Plus, you have to figure that you'd be the focus of all of the non hockey stuff that happens up there.
IDK seems to me that you could get a lot of untapped money up there. Raptor fans wanna weigh in here?

Pointgod wrote:Why would Bulls trade Lavine? He’s still only 27 years old and they have the foundation of a young offensive and defensive core with Lonzo, Pat Williams, Caruso and Ayo. I can definitely see Zach playing a Devin Booker type role on a balanced team of youths and vets. The Bulls are just lacking the Chris Paul type vet that will put them into that contender status. I think everyone recognizes as great as Derozan has played, he probably has only a couple more years left and Vucevic on the inside is a disaster defensively.
He is absolutely not in Booker's wheelhouse imo. Numbers wise they're similar but Book is a much better defender and significantly more sturdy and healthy.
I know he missed games too early on, but those were tanking teams and they wanted him to sit. If he is needed to play, he will play as proven last playoffs when he didn't lose a game after having his face broken.

With Patrick Williams healthy going into next season if I were Zach I wouldn't leave.

I'm actually stunned that this thread was even created or that anybody is seriously contemplating that Lavine doesn't resign. He's 27 and probably among the top 5(or 10) SGs in the NBA and the Bulls just made the playoffs. On what planet do people think Reinsdorf isn't giving Lavine the max? The Bulls have been mediocre-bad since the Rose-era ended and I don't think Reinsdorf is inclined to start another rebuild. Now personally I wouldn't give him a supermax(which is possible if he makes 3rd team All-NBA) or a max(5yr-200 mil) but that's just how picky I am with who I feel deserves them.

If I’m the Bulls I’d be thinking about keeping LaVine and trading Demar before he turns back into a pumpkin. You don’t build around a 33 year old guy having an anomalous career year.

Re: Does Lavine resign, or who will poach him.
The Bulls are going to pay him a lot he'd be dumb to go anywhere else. The Blazers could be a good spot, but too much uncertainty to take the risk. Everywhere else would be a lateral move at best. That said some team could come out of nowhere and tempt Lavine and the Bulls for a sign and trade. I could see the Kings offering to send Barnes, Holmes, and a ton of picks to Chicago for Lavine.

Hard to see that in Chicago, with the Bulls already having Lonzo and DDR. I would think a possibility - if the Bulls lose in 4/5 games and LaVine isn't sweet on re-signing, is perhaps a S&T where Harris in involved. And, before the board says, "why the f would the Bulls do that?", remember that Harden did not opt into his 2022-23 contract. Zach Lowe of ESPN said - at the time of the trade - that there was talk within NBA circles that Harden could give the Sixers salary cap freedom by signing a below-market 1-year deal; If the Sixers are able to trade Harris into another team's cap space, they would have the $ to sign LaVine outright. Who might have than space? OKC has it - and a year of Harris with Giddey, SGA and Dort could be fun,,,and I would think Presti could move Harris in the last year of his deal (2023-24) for some assets. Detroit also has cap space as well.
To be honest, I am fine keeping Harris as a glue guy/4th option behind the big 3...but if LaVine wasn't sold on re-signing with the Bulls, the Sixers might be able to make things interesting.

Re: Does Lavine resign, or who will poach him.
Now if more significant teams had the cap space I could see Lavine declining the max to go team up with someone. For example if Lebron and Westbrook weren't on the Lakers and it were just AD, I could see something like that enticing Lavine. Again Lavine will likely take the Bulls money but he essentially is going to be stuck with Derozan/Ball for the next two years and I don't know what the Bulls ceiling is cause of it.
Oddly enough I wonder will any FAs consider going to Memphis considering that Ja is still on his rookie deal.

Spurs do make the most sense. He's exactly what they need and he and Murray seem like a great match.

trying to scrape for as much help for lebron as possible i see.
bulls have a future. lakers don't.
lavine at futureless minnie and futureless bulls had zero impact
he's on something @bulls and he won't give it up
lebron will have to continue to recruit elsewhere.
