What the **** has happened to Weezer, man? I haven't listen to them in ages - I think I hopped off the bandwagon with the album after Hashpipe - but I just heard some new song of theirs and it's just...offensive to everything I previously thought of as being Weezer.

Yeah man, Rivers really just put all his best **** on the Blue Album I think. Timeless album but hard to believe how much theyve sold out now.

I finally crossed seeing Cunninlynguists off my bucket list this past Saturday, highly recommend making it to one of their shows. Great time and they covered classics throughout the majority of their discography. Only a few songs I wish they did but not a single song I wish they didn't.

Such a good song both lyrically and musically. Kanye absolutely killed that sample. That and Just So You Remember's samples are just bananas.

I was not a fan of them going minimalist/disco/electro stuff on Everything Now and some of Reflektor (overall this album was still good). And I'm a huge electronic music fan, but their entire strength is the big, emotional, "wall of sound" stuff - so forgive me if I don't want to hear a disco song with Regine talking over some disco beat. Sprawl II and the like somewhat fit that description but are effing fantastic, but that still is in their wheelhouse.

I'm just going to assume Unconditional II is going to be an absolute banger. The release of Unconditional I last week had a nice lead up into it. Again, they kinda broke this with Everything Now, but they had a run of every penultimate song on their albums being one of my favorite songs of all time.

I think rock appears dead because rock isn't pop culture. It used to be. I know there are probably different opinions on this, but I think it goes it's not popular --> there are less of this type of band now, and less recognition of these frontmen/bands. As opposed to the bands suck now or aren't around --> they are no longer popular.

It is an interesting convo, but that's always been my perspective on it. Just like you can still find good folk and Americana music now, but the pop culture zeitgeist doesn't value it now like they did in the 70s.

Like I mentioned before, I think we are probably kinda (?) the same age and this is probably just something we will deal with as our parents watched their favorite bands still put out good stuff, but it wasn't the same. The bands are getting older/more pretentious/probably care about other ****/less creative.

They all have to reinvent themselves as you're supposed to do as a worldwide rock band that isn't necessarily mainstream pop.

It is a similar progression to Radiohead. I'm just going to pretend Pablo Honey doesn't exist.

The Bends/OK Computer and Funeral/Neon Bible - Incredible, these were the generational albums that got them on the scene. A change from A to B, but really good.

Then they both did a major reinvention for
Kid A/Amnesiac/HTTT/In Rainbows and The Suburbs/Reflektor - These were a reinvention but it was still really awesome. They stripped down what they do to some degree for these, but in some cases like Kid A, it was kind of revolutionary.

TKOL/Moon Shaped Pool and Everything Now/WE - "OK guys, don't strip it down that much."

I feel like if they wedged 3 more anthems at various places in WE it would be good/great. I like all of the songs. But they are about as good as all of the bridge songs in the Suburbs basically without all of the heavy hitters.

';tldr I think my more succinct thoughts are - they took 90% of the anthems out of their albums. That is what I got into Arcade Fire for. They pulled it off with less anthems on the Suburbs, Reflektor was OK with like 2 or 3. Now they're down to 1 per album, which they tease us with by giving as the leading single. The rest of it is not the Arcade Fire of old.
