Leaving it up to the media to vote for these awards and all-nba teams is just garbage. Let the coaches and players decide who among their peers is deserving of the acclimades.

Mikal gave Smart his flowers and Smart did the same back to him. If Mikal isn't crying about it, neither should you as a grown ass man.

Both are great defenders. KD asking Zeke how he would go against Mikal is also irrelevant. Why would he care about how Isaiah Thomas at 5'11" would go against a wing defender?

Kyrie scored a whopping 10 pts on 26 possessions on him. I wouldn't call that smoked but I see you're a casual and assume Kyrie scored all 39 of his points on Smart.

Everyone clamoring for gobert I guess haven’t been watching him give up like 10 3s in row right this very second.

Smart got a team award.

He isn't close to being the best defensive player.

You could argue he is the most valuable defensive player due to his leadership and communication abilities.

- Draymond missed too many games
- Smart had more steals per game than any of them, in addition to Bridges
- According to matchup data, Smart allowed fewer points per possession over the season than Bridges, Gobert or Giannis
- Smart had more deflections per game than any of them
- Smart recovered more loose balls per game than any of them
- Smart drew more charges per game than any of them

I am not saying there aren't arguments for Gobert, Bridges and Giannis, but there is certainly a good argument for Smart as well. If a guard was going to win it again, Smart was a good candidate for it.

Funny how you didn't mention Bam who eclipses smart on all the analytics for defensive metrics.

It’s also funny how the heat went 17-9 without bam and had essentially the same defensive rating.

Or your 3x DPOY could get played off the court by Maxi Kleber. Couldn't be my DPOY

Good try trying to use a useless stat that reflects little on Miami's actual success. Bam's numbers with any combination of Heat players has astronomical defensive metrics, and lessen when he isn't on the court with them by a lot. However Miami has the best bench in the league, and a really deep team, continuing to win regardless of missing players is how they managed to keep winning. Doesn't change the fact then when he was on the court, He held players to their lowest rates and defended all positions equally on any switch a true defender that can defend 1-5.

As does Rob Williams, who was the #1 defender in the league according to analytics. Smart deserves it by being an integral part of the elite defense.

Again, this is an individual player award, whom the top contending names all belong to elite defenses or they wouldn't be in the conversation. Justifying this by saying Smart was on the #1 defensive efficiency team vs a player in the #4 rated team should not be the deciding factor. Miami had the best 3pt defense this year in part because of Bam's ability to switch out on the perimeter and lock down a wing player. There are far more defensive metrics than efficiency.

This is terrible logic.

Would you say Donovan Mitchell is the best offensive player in the league? He was on the best offense.

You also must think Booker is MVP as he was on the best team.

How much do people think BOS defense would fall off without Smart vs UTA without Gobert? It’s not even comparable who does more (and I’m not even a Gobert fan).

No guard/wing should ever win this award. It’s not their fault but they can just never impact the game at the same level an elite big can. Voter fatigue is so dumb.

The person I replied to didn't mention Bam. Pretty sure Smart was better than Bam on most if not all those metrics I listed, though.

Bam had a good case for DPOY too, not sure what to tell you. I'm a big fan of Bam.
