5 of the first 6 DPOYs were guards. Only 2 of the last 34 -- Payton and Smart.

Smart, now 28 yo, was only 2 yrs old when Payton, then 27, won DPOY.

Came back momentarily from retirement just to say...

I FREAKING LOVE MARCUS SMART

He's been the heart and soul of this team for years. Nobody deserves this award more. I hope he remains a Celtic for his entire career.

Good to see you back. Your avatar needs an update, though.

Well deserved.

Based on comment above, it seems the full voting is already known?

What might be a link?

Thanks!

It's been an absolutely historic couple of days for the Celtics. First buzzer-beater in a home playoff game in franchise history, followed by the first guard to win DPOY in 25 years? Amazing. Congrats to Marcus, the heart and soul of our team.

Hopefully this isn't the high point of the playoffs for us, and is just a prelude to winning Banner 18. When the last Celtic won DPOY (KG in 2008), we won the title, so...just saying.

Havlicek is the only one in the discussion.

KC Jones would always have lost to Russell.

Tony Allen I’d say could’ve won one with the grizz

I had no doubt Smart was going to win.

He's earned it and it's well deserved.

Mikal Bridges?

Come on!

Edit: didn’t see the pre 83 designation

No doubt Tony Allen was a great defensive player, but I don't think he's on the same level as Gary Payton and Marcus Smart.

But Tony Allen is no doubt 1st team all-defense during his time in Memphis.

Sneaky recruiting of Bradley Beal in there.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

I remember i posted a comment on youtube it was a predraft scouting video before Danny selected him that he should be a top 3 pick based on his defense alone. Well well deserved and earned every vote. Congrats Cobra.

Once again.

I am so happy for Marcus. He is a great human, great basketball player and his hard work is getting recognized, as it should be.

I even like when tnt interviewed him and Kenny told him he had been working hard on his shot and it shows. lol

Bridges is just as deserving as Smart, or really close at least. No need to slander other teams players, IMO.

I’d guess either Bridges, Bam, or Rob win it next year.

About damn time. He deserves to win it at least once in his career. This man puts his body and career on the line every freakin night when he is healthy.
