If someone wants to vote for Embiid, fine. He's fantastic. But clinching your vote because he averages 30.4 points per game versus 30.2 versus 30.1 is just stupid.

My favorite is people who used seeding when there was like a 2 game difference. Like ok if the 6th seed is 44-40 and the 1 seed is 60-22, yeah it should be a tie-breaker but 2 games shouldn't move the needle on your vote.

Is that the first stupid thing you discovered about the MVP voting? Because I can probably write a PhD thesis on the surrealism of the thing

The commentary wasn't wrong, though. Scoring title is going to win some votes. So will highest seed, and so will most wins. Then you'll have people trying to parse the difference between "best player" and "most valuable player" (there isn't one).

THISSSSSSS

I can't STAND it when people try to say, "Well, so and so is MORE VALUABLE to his team than so and so, so he should win MVP." Give me a break. "Most Valuable Player" is just a fancy way of saying "Best Player." The NCAA Tournament has it right: it's "Most Outstanding Player."

I mean, if you're going to parse the "valuable" language, then why not go broader? Most valuable player relative to the entire league, regardless of team? It's just best effing player. Was it Jokic? Was it Giannis? Was it Embiid? Pick one, whatever, who cares, but don't be all like, "Well, Embiid really kept his team in the hunt for the top seed with all the turmoil surrounding Simmons" or "Jokic is the most valuable to his team because they lost their other best players and they are still really good, but Giannis has had Holiday and Middleton, so he's not as valuable to his team and word vomit."

Just vote for whoever had the best season and be done with it.

Giannis will pass Kevin Love tonight for 176 on the All time scoring list. Probably will end up at 175 this season unless he goes super nova over the last 3 games.

Kind of crazy he is currently bunched up with long-term scorers like Blake, AD, Kemba, at age 27 while passing guys like Beal, Kyrie, etc. Not bad for a guy who can't shoot.

I wonder where he sits on the all time dunks list.

Don't know if you know but in Greece a few years ago the whole banking system was *****, basically the banks were paying money to people withdrawing from their deposits FASTER than they were collecting from people paying their loans. So the banks were really low on cash, and they had to apply "capital controls", meaning you could only withdraw up to 50 euro a day from your bank account. Every day people were queuing up at the ATMs to withdraw their daily 50.

Maybe that's what Giannis was thinking: "worse comes to worse if I have 100 bank accounts I can drive from bank to bank and withdraw 50 from each, so that's $5,000 a day, we'll be fine"

He probably didn't, but it's a funny thought anyway

Oh yea, I'm sorry and I didn't mean to offend. I can absolutely get Giannis being wonky about banks. I just figured the NBA or the Bucks owners would have helped out at the very earliest of contract signing stage.

Oh no sorry, I wasn't offended, I legit thought it was a hilarious thought lol
I imagined Giannis driving from bank to bank every night, with a bowl of chicken wings on the driver seat, counting how many 50's he still has to collect to pay for Maria's hairdresser :D

Just so in line with his "if we work hard every day" mentality

Saw this morning that Giannis’ MVP odds were the exact same (+700) as they were on opening night, lending credence to my theory that there was nothing Giannis could have done to win MVP this year.

What little chance he had to win evaporated in the loss against Dallas on Sunday.

If Disney was smart, they would have timed the release of the upcoming Giannis movie a few weeks ago. Schmaltzy Disney crap would have absolutely tipped the mvp race in Giannis’ favor. I really believe that. These voters are looking for a narrative.

Im also totally going to watch that movie. And probably cry. The “Woj podcast” about Giannis’ childhood choked me up a little.

https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/most-career-playoff-games-by-a-player-with-40-or-more-pts

Giannis has 5 total. LeBron has 28 at #2, Jordan has 38 most overall.

LeBron dragged those cavs teams to the finals.

Surprised so few with the heat, but a lot less heavy lifting on a super team.

I think Giannis hits top 11-15 by this playoff run and top 10 next year.
