Oh definitely.

The reason a lot of these fouls are happening is that the Raptors are playing personnel and style that lends itself to fouling.

But sure if Embiid or Harden see an opportunity to draw a foul they do. And the raptors are giving them lots of opportunities, on top of a lot of times just fouling them.

ok just make sure you give the same explanation when Butler and Lowry are combining for 17 freethrow attempts per game against the Sixers....that's all I'm asking for.

Ok and how about you tell all the raptors fans complaining in this thread to do the same because it was cool when Lowry grifted for a decade.

If the Sixers play the Heat and put guys completely physically incapable of covering Butler or Lowry on them and they get lit up with fouls and points they’ll get what they deserve. Like when the Sixers put Niang on Siakam last night and he picked up 3 fouls in like 4 minutes, they got what they deserved. That’s what the Raptors are doing by putting guys 50+ pounds lighter on Embiid.

Embiid's comments about Nurse are hilarious because we all know that if the FT differential was in favor of the Raptors, Embiid and the Sixers would be whining 10X louder than Nurse.

I picked 76ers in 6 before the series started. I don't rate Raptors players highly, they overachieved. It would be big upset if 76ers lose this series. I wouldn't have Siakam on 3rd All NBA team. I hope he doesn't make it.

That's impossible without a single superstar player.

Butler has been top 10 in Free Throws attempted the last 5 years running. Of course he'll get to the line.

I don't understand what is shocking about a Sixers team that was 3rd in free throws attempted this season getting to the line at a much higher rate than a Raptors team that was bottom third in the league. Not to mention Nurse is trying to implement a blitzing defense that's prone to fouls because their whole line up consists of 6-8 wing players and not a single real center.

Just watched the first quarter of the second game until now, but if somenine is complaining about the calls that embiid got in the first quarter I don't know what to say. They played him very physical, he is a physical dude by design obviously, so he gets a lot of foul calls. Imho there was one "and1" that was 50/50 and that was it. On the other side there was an occasion where harden defended under the basket and pushed a raptor player around and was not whistled for it. Besides that I really cannot see what's the big problem. One team attacks the paint with a real center and the other team doesn't. Will try to watch the rest today or tomorrow if I have time.

Besides all the foul talk, anyone noticed how different Joel plays in this series? Usually he settles more for jumpers and 3 pointers. This series he is going full force in the paint with quick decision making. I absolutely love it.

Looking forward to the next game. Will be interesting if the raports can attemp a comeback at home. Best of luck. :-)

As a mavs fan , i have no dog in this fight , with that Being said,

Some Toronto fans complaining all day long about the refs , with 2 blowouts at their back. Are shameful.

There is no shame on the loss.
Toronto shouldnt be there at least no at 5 seed.

Your best player is a 3 team All star at best.
Your second best is a 20 year rookie very raw. Not even playing
You have no bench.

Playing against the 2 best center in the league.
A 5 time 1@ team all nba guard
A máx contract power forward
A incredible sophomore guard having the year of his life.
A coach fighting for his job.

Relax buddies , everyone saw this happening.

You should have tank , get assets for Siakam , Og and Fvv and rebuild around Barnes and gtj.

Instead you trade your 1st round for a vet useless.

Forcing fans to believe in the moment.
When problably Toronto is the weakest star power team on the Playoff.

I hope you steal at least 1 game to avoid the sweep.

Hoping for some adjustments: single coverage on their guards. Gotta pick up Maxey early in transition. No more running starts for Sexual Chocolate's frontman. Gotta stop penetration earlier so that closeouts have a better chance at impacting shots. Allowing 48% from 3pt is uncivilized.

Gotta do all the little things. If we can do it once, we can do it three more times.

The next game will tell us if we have a series on our hands, probably the most important game thus far. I wanted to say something about how Harden can show us if he still got it, but honestly, the Sixers should win this series anyway. Harden will only be judged if he doesn't get the Sixers out of the ECSF. Winning against Miami will be his & the team's judgment.

The fast break and putback when Achiuwa had his back to his basket are complete no calls. 50/50 calls are the bump Birch had on him that quarter. Then were in bonus earlier. If the Raps get those 50/50 calls the other way your looking at a 10 point swing without a difference in the quality of reffing

If Trent Jr is still sick hopefully he doesn't play tonight. He shouldn't have played Game 1 or 2.

Raps are in a big hole, especially without Barnes/GTJ. We can't stop Embiid and won't stop him.. time to accept that. They need to focus on slowing down Harris and Maxey. The way the first 2 games went, I can't see it going more than 5 games if the Raptors maybe steal one at home.

Nurse has gotta pull out some defensive adjustments tonight or the team will perish.
And, I dunno, not having Mark Lindsay, who was born, raised, and schooled in SE Pennsylvania, officiate a 76ers game could help as well.

If Toronto is going to a win a game, this is it.

But I suspect 3-0 Philly as we continue to have no answer for Maxey.

Well that's not true.. I think people are missing the point, MOST of the people complaining don't give a **** about the calls embiid is getting. its about the calls toronto is NOT getting. There has been nothing consistent about how the games have been called. That's not whining, its just about getting the same call for both sides. We know we are fouling embiid.
As for fouling harden, I dunno anymore. He does his rip through and flops so its hard to tell whats real or not with him

What lol plenty of people are complaining about Embiid.

In terms of the raptors they are averaging like 2 fewer free throws than they did during the year in games that average 8 fewer possessions than they did during the year.

In terms of “the same fouls on both sides” no one on the raptors plays like Embiid or Harden so I’m not sure how that makes sense. Tell Siakam to try to back Embiid down the way Embiid does on him and see how effective it is. Not because the refs like Embiid more but because of basic physics.

Your team built its roster without a center and so Embiid is going against guys that give up 50 pounds on him. You’re coach is openly talking about how aggressive he wants his team to be. I’m not sure why anyone is surprised Embiid is picking up fouls the way he is and your team isn’t. It just seems like a very obvious trade off for building the roster this way that shouldn’t have to be explained.

Here's the thing - Siakam DOES try to work Embiid when he has the ball. The reality is Embiid flat-out STONES him when he tries...WITHOUT FOULING.

I understand what your saying and I know no one is built like Embiid on the raptors but when you see guys hitting the floor from being pushed or hacked (obviously not all the time) it looks like there is no consistency. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying its completely out of whack here but I don't think its been balanced. You can't really say they aren't built to get to the line because regular season stats show that's not the case.

People keep bring up that Toronto said they are going to be physical. Why does that automatically mean everything is a foul? I've seen that argument used by so many people here. Those 2 things aren't mutually exclusive.
At the end of the day I know it's not why they are losing but its sad its even a talking point. Refs in the league in general are not great and consistency from game to game is just not there. That's a much bigger problem than this series.

That's where we disagree. You say without fouling, sure maybe some of the time but it would be flat out wrong to say he never does. He gets away with a lot. Also for someone so big how does he end up on the floor so often when people half his size hit his arms?

Anyways i'm kinda over discussing the fouls and refs because the second it gets discussed it turns into someone else bitching that everyone is crying about the refs. Its not the reason the raptors are losing so its not worth discussing anymore.

The people bitching about raptors fans talking about the refs are equally as annoying and I'd love to see both just shut up lol

I think some fans are confused. It's not the ref's job to balance out fouls, it's their job to call fouls...They won't allow a team to foul a guy over and over and not call it because one team has more free throws. The onus is on the teams to not foul. Sure they will give a foul when a bad one is made on the other team as a make up call, and I think that is fair. But to complain that they need to even out the calls when one team is blatantly fouling to slow guys down is crazy... And now we are hearing from Toronto fans that one of the refs is from the philly area so he is cheating them? Good Lord, this crying and conspiracy theory is reaching epic levels Nort of the border. Good luck tonight, and hoping for a great game, that the Sixers win of course

You mean the one where Precious is facing the wrong way? He throws his arm back and hits Embiid's arm as he's shooting. Just because Embiid is strong enough to overcome the hit doesn't make it not a foul. Also on the initial shot there Precious has his arm wrapped around Embiid while he's doing a spin move. So if we're saying those were both "50/50" calls it seems it came out proportionate.

That play is a pretty perfect encapsulation of how the Raptors don't have someone to physically cover Embiid legally and so they are often having to resort to fouling him to adjust his shot. Contrary to what you may think the refs aren't calling every single time it happens and giving every 50/50 call the Sixers way, the Raptors are just creating a lot of situations like this and are getting caught sometimes. If you have someone like Gasol out there he can just play him straight up he doesn't have to do that wrap around on the initial shot and he's not getting moved off his spot when he's trying to block out on the second and have to blindly flail back.

Also the Precious and Birch fouls both happened when the Raptors were in the bonus. Precious was with 1:25 seconds left in the quarter.

With this team Nurse has to figure out how to stop Embiid from getting that deep position because once he does it's generally going to be a foul and/or layup. I assume they'll come up with something creative tonight.
