But the Knicks have the assets to package for a deal. Maybe they could move up to 6 or 7 in this draft if someone they like is there.

Fun stats from the last 20 years:

• Years RealGM poster predicted Knicks trading into top of draft: 20/20 (100%)

• Years Knicks traded up: 0/20 (O%)

To be fair I didn’t say the top I said 4 spots up at most.

Pretty sure that doesn’t change a thing about my fun facts.

Trading into the top 7 would interfere with the Knicks tried and true strategy of relying on the Alec Burks, Derrick Roses, Kemba Walkers, Nerlens Noels and Evan Fourniers of the past 20 years.

History says if they’re gonna trade, they trade out or trade down. This feels like a “trade out” kinda year to me.

History also says many on this board will disagree and predict trade ups to grab their favorite prospect. Typically 500 pages of draft chatter leading into the Knicks punting draft night. Truly a testament to the human spirit of irrational optimism.

IMO, the signature way this front office has been drafting is to have agreements in place. They've executed draft day trades if a certain player they want is taken or is falling and they can grab additional assets. Sheeeet, 7 #1s in 4 years, is no small feat.

Knicks are so bad it’s created an entire side-industry of Knick fans following their favorite prospects that the Knicks didn’t GAF about drafting.

I’m just here with popcorn hoping the lotto gods bless us with a top 4 pick so I can watch this board meltdown as we trade it for Dame or Donovan or Zion or whatever.

I think the top #7 goes

Tier #1
Chet
Jabari
Paolo

Tier #2
Ivey
Sharpe (just based on hype)

Tier #3
Duren
Keegan

After that there is the tier of guys the Knicks will draft in that consists of Davis, Griffin, M. Williams, Eason, Daniels, and Mathurin.

I think the Portland Trailblazers are going to win the lottery because they are up for sale, and we know how the league likes to reward the new owner with the #1 draft pick.

Probably already mentioned but here you go

Charlotte also owns its own second-round pick this year, the 45th overall. If this selection had not fallen between 31 and 55, it would have been sent to New York via Boston as part of the Gordon Hayward and then Evan Fournier sign-and-trade transactions. With this pick now not conveying, any future obligation for Charlotte has now been extinguished.

Lillard's been lobbying for a 2-Way wing with size. Maybe think about moving Obi/Cam/11th pick for the 6th pick if you believe Sharpe will be there. That would be an amazing pick plus the Kentucky connection. You know brass would do it.

Portland can put a PF and a wing next to Dame:

Lillard/Simons/Cam/Obi/Nurkic.

Still have 2 draft picks (#11 & #15) to select or trade for depth. Athletic enough to compete, young enough to pivot if Lillard wants out. If they would like some veteran presence, expand the deal to include any of (Rose/Burks/Fournier/Noel) in exchange for Bledsoe.

If the Knicks can get Brunson and keep Mitch, then

Brunson/Rose/McBride
Sharpe/Grimes
RJ/Fournier
Randle/Sims/Taj
Mitch/Noel

Package Quickley/Burkes for a late pick.
Karl Anthony-Towms

There goes my hero. He's ordinary.

Yeah that's something that they definitely should be working extra hard to do. They don't need more quantity when it comes to young players, they need quality. And taking all those draft assets and honestly even a guy that is already on the team to move up via consolidating assets would be a real good idea. Whether they can or not, that remains to be seen. But for sure, they should heavily be looking at moving up.

That pick wasn't ever going to be the Knicks lol. I remember when this was first announced, I was like "so what exactly is the point of this? it's never going to materialize lol". Were Leon Rose and his team banking on LaMelo Ball making the Hornets a bottom 5 team when without him they were already not a bottom 5 team? And even if the Hornets were a bottom 5 team, what exactly is the value of a 2nd round pick in the 55-60 range? It's worth next to nothing.

All this particular "asset" does is feed the smoke-and-mirrors notion that all those picks the Knicks have is some major accomplishment and giant asset.

Keeping your own picks (which are the most valuable draft assets by far in the 'huge pick asset pool' they have) should not be a major accomplishment for most competent teams (especially ones not vying for a championship). That's an accomplishment along the lines of an obese man ordering a small fry instead of a large fry. The rest of what they have project out to be what? Dallas is a playoff team as long as Luka is on the team and he'll be on the team next year so that 2023 Dallas 1st round pick is a so-so asset (and no, hoping that Luka gets injured and misses a lot of time is neither right nor any justification of the value of that pick). What else? A whole bunch of 2nd round picks?

Image

Leon Rose and his crack staff needs to take a lot of those 'assets' and try to move up. Not punt it for more future picks. That's just another smoke-and-mirror dog-and-pony-show move. The Knicks so-called "draft assets" are not as great as our FO wants the fanbase (and probably Dolan) to believe it is. But hey "fans love picks" so let's give them picks.
