Re: OT: General OT Thread [NO POLITICS OR RELIGION]
My microwave has 3 standard time increment buttons: 10 minutes, 1 minute, 10 seconds. It defaults to High. If you just press the start button without adjusting the time it gives you 30 seconds on High and starts, adding an extra 30 seconds each time you press the button. When you press any of these buttons the beep is quite loud.
If I have a bowl of porridge for breakfast I've taken to making it in the microwave. It's 2 minutes on High. I could press the 1 minute button twice, then the Start button- 3 total loud beeps. I smash the High button four times to get the +30 secs to 2 minutes- 4 total loud beeps. The house is usually quiet, each additional loud beep leaves me worrying I am disturbing people- yet I always do this.
This is basically the only thing I use the microwave for. I worry that at some point I will come across something that needs perhaps 3, maybe even 4 minutes. I know what I'll do. Regardless of the time of day.

I feel like I'm giving you too much credit for even thinking you're bringing porridge into my life for the first time in literally 35 years today. Because I read this very good essay today that included this:
In these, writers use or invent terms like “productivity dysmorphia” or “competitive exhaustion” to add a medicalized aura of gravity to their tirades detailing the demands of professional life in “our Capitalist hellscape” or whatever. Again, there is the humorlessness and lack of perspective: “I have realized that [productivity dysmorphia] is an inability to see my own success. It’s like I’m looking in the mirror of my professional life and I don’t see the published author staring back at me. All I see is a failure.” Again the theatrics, such as Peterson swearing at the concept of porridge as a time-saving breakfast: “overnight **** oats”.
You're not this good.

I do the same thing in my head with pretty much anything that makes noise. But, I'm pretty sure a lot of microwaves let you turn off the beeps.

So I've been waiting for a package for weeks, and come to find out it was delivered a week ago. It was a UPS package; am I just screwed?

Wow that's funny timing! We told our daughter she might be moving away from home and bringing this fella with. My buddys brother bought one thinking 5-8 years, lived 22 years lmao.

We did! She's about 3 months old, haven't been able to 100% figure out the set but pretty sure it's a female. She's starting to get big. We had her mainly on calcium worms and Crickets until a month ago started doing Dunia roaches too. She goes nuts for those. Trying to get her to eat her greens a couple times a week is a struggle. Last time I put the greens in a bowl and put some roaches and worms in there. (Bowl is too slick for the roaches to crawl out of the little lip)
Never see her drink much water but we wet down her greens and spray her a few times a day on her body. We leave a small dish of water and she seems to drink when we aren't watching. Or it just evaporated.
They are really cool, I find myself staring at her eating for a while then I feel like a creeper lol

UPS should have exact GPS coordinates of every delivery location. Start a case with them

Would you buy a house in this area that doesn’t have a basement?

A lot of variables go into play on this question. How big is the house above ground? How old is the house? What are your long term plans?
Personally, no. Both my houses have had basements, the first one was completely finished with a bar and movie area. My new house is unfinished but we know in 5 years or so we want to finish it off, add a bathroom and theater type area and maybe a workout room. In the meantime we have more storage than we could ever ask for. For whatever reason I've just always had a basement of some sort and I like it haha.
Finishing a basement is a hell of a lot cheaper than adding on above ground.

Hard pass. We don't even have a usable basement - super, super old 1800s house - and I still can't imagine not having one at least as shelter and storage. But, honestly, I don't know why anyone would buy or build a house without a basement (within reason of price, and considering water level/soil composure). Many people in the South fundamentally do not understand basements and garages and I just did not get it.
Fun story. When we moved to Georgia, our realtor was trying to work out how much of a deal breaker a garage was - which it was. She showed us a great house with only a one car garage, and we were trying to work out if we could make it work. One of our cars is electric, so we wanted a garage for charging inside (though outside is fine), but I really wanted both cars inside.
Me: "Do you guys get hail down here?"
Realtor: "Hail? Oh no, hun. No hail in Georgia!"
...it hailed literally two minutes later.
But anyways, yeah get a basement.

Yeah, lack of storage and ability to expand our space are big concerns. We came across a listing that we both immediately got the "this could be it" feeling (which has been rare) and we're like what's the catch - this is amazing. Welp, no basement.

I did sous vide pork ribs awhile back. 165, 12h.
https://www.seriouseats.com/sous-vide-pork-ribs-recipe-food-lab
I ended up not needing them for the party I was throwing at that time, and froze them for a month.
Pulled them back out, thawed them in the bath then finished on the grill, they were spectacular. Best ribs I've ever made.

My dumbass got the boot from my job due to a coworker, talked about earlier in this thread, that I was sleeping with. Got in a fight and she went to HR about it. Got my first interview tomorrow and I know my last company will just say dates of employment/title when it comes to reference checking. Should I be honest about what happened or spin it in a different way? I don't want them to think it was a performance thing, I just had an error in judgement that spilled over to my job
Inadequate perception I reckon it's from the Valium

Personally I wouldn't be forthright about something like that.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Were you let go because your company had a policy against office relationships?
On the ref check/employment verification they could ask the 'are they rehirable' question. FYI

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Definitely don't bring it up.
