Basically no one should listen to anything I say because literally the opposite will happen. I'm wrong on everything. I was certain his job was safe. Wow.

I mean I get it but I dont get it. Borrego didnt have a balanced roster but on the flip side our team defense was brutally bad

The only reason I would do this is if I had something better lined up but we know thats not the Charlotte way

didnt think we would actually do it but damn

2 horrible play-ins and what seemed like not the best relationship with the players (dont recall too much of players EVER going out of their way to praise JB, do you guys?)

if you come into the post season looking beyond completely unprepared 2 years in a row im not sure what you expect at this level.

me too. I for sure expected he'd be here, and if next season started badly, we'd pull the plug by December/January

I'm worried about our future direction. Damn. With all the news about Mitch taking a step back, to Buzz possibly replacing him, and now JB getting the axe.

Didn't Miles recently praise JB?

WOW!

I thought with the extension and winning 10 more games that he was safe despite the poor defense and terrible showing in the play-in. I thought they would have forced him to hire an experienced defensive minded assistant at see where it went next season.

On a side note- I have met and chatted with JB at a few of my sons travel ball tournaments (his son plays on the circuit and he was often in the gym when the team was in town). JB was a good guy and gracious with the young kids that would come chat him up. I liked him.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the change and think a new voice may help out but, after the train wreck hiring's (AKA - Fine Ham Biscuit) we have seen in the past I wanted to show JB some love for guiding us to a respectable level.

Now.... who do you think will be the next coach?

I'm just gonna go dream about us trading for a great rim running big man and D'Antoni coaching LaMelo, that big man, Miles, and an army of shooters

I am fully expecting Vogel though.

Ive been worried about the teams future since the offseason. Getting vibes maybe its still the same old lolcats franchise and that they just got lucky that LaMelo landed in their laps.

Not really sure how I feel about JB. He seemed like kind of a mixed bag, but I haven't been a fan of the direction of the roster they're building recently either and it feels like a lot of issues are getting overshadowed because of the improvement of LaMelo/Miles (might apply to issues with JB too).

im not saying they wouldnt say nice things when asked directly but id never hear someone unprompted just say JB drew up a nice game plan or had them motivated

Yeah he's a pretty safe bet to be decent. Low risk medium reward hire

I guess those exit interviews were really bad.

I'm also surprised JB got sacked, but tbh I expected it would happen next year anyway because I didn't have much faith he'd ever turn that defense around and I thought he was incapable of focusing the team. Great guy, pretty good development coach, awful Xs and Os. Maybe the FO felt the same and figured why not rip the band-aid off now if they're transitioning from development to chasing contention.

Vogel would be a great get. I'm also fine with Melo on a D'Antoni team.

I'd keep an eye on Rick Carlisle.

I really don't want a retread like Vogel. If they are going to try to make an aggressive move like this they need to be willing to take some risk to find an elite coach. If they were ok with a just a decent coach they should have just given JB another half season at least.

If they hire an established coach it needs to be someone legit good. I'm not sure who is really going to be available on that front. I'm a bit iffy on D'Antoni, but it would at least be interesting seeing his system with this roster and its not like he hasn't had significant success before. Maybe Quinn Snyder leaves Utah, but their recent collapse is a bit troubling although it seems like more of a roster construction issue to me. Ive always been a Carlisle fan, but he kind of seems like hes been sort of "losing it" the last few years.

I didn’t think this would happen until next season when we get blown out of the first round or play in again. Now we have a chance!

It was the right move to begin contending. He was a solid coach for a young team developing but not one who could win a chess match against a more experienced coach. The roster construction didn’t help him but he also didn’t help himself with his rotations and in game management (and major lack of game sense). He’ll be a better coach when he gets his second stint but for now, we need someone who knows how to win in the playoffs.

D’Antoni is really interesting for this roster
