Re: 2022 NBA Draft
If I'm making the pick today, based on who's likely there, I'm deciding between Roddy and Chandler but probably ending up picking somebody who slips. Both of these guys though are going to be underdrafted based on perceived physical inadequacies that I don't think they actually have. Chandler is short but super long, and Roddy is unusually thick and that is... not a problem. Chandler's very reminiscent of Lowry.

I have an affinity for undersized guards, so give me Chandler. At least he's athletic.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft
Simmons and Russilo did a recent pod where they were looking at late-1st round picks to figure out which traits/profiles tended to translate best to the pros, and while they ultimately concurred that it was a crapshoot (specifically mentioning Siakam, Maxey, Josh Hart, and I think Bane?), they also kinda argued that pedigree (HS recruitment rank) with guys who fell down draft boards after underwhelming freshman years correlated most often with guys that ended up being steals in that range (20-30), because basketball is the sport where raw talent most often translates.
Basically a long-winded way of saying I'd be fine if they took a swing on Baldwin knowing all the tools that are there. Maybe he's a flat out bust, but maybe he also just needs some development and to not be stuck on a Division-III level roster.

I mean look at GSW, could of went for guys who could play right away, but chose high upside guys first. Their window is much shorter than ours too. Obviously they were in the lotto, but still. I like taking a guy with the tools to succeed. Plenty of guys who dominated college comp, but poor NBA guys vice versa too. I think you take someone with the tools to succeed and let coaches develop. We should start thinking about life after Midds/Jrue. Taking high ceiling guys so they can sit and learn isn't a bad idea

Re: 2022 NBA Draft
I’m totally fine with a swing for the fences project type guy. Just not really convinced that’s what Baldwin is. I’m not going to pretend to have seen much of him but if the reports that he has a slow first step and isn’t much of a ball handler are true, I’m not really sure I see the upside. Sounds more like he’s just a shooter that didn’t make shots in college.

Anytime I see Baldwin's name brought up in draft threads, I think of Wade Baldwin (Vanderbilt). Man, did I had a crush on him prior to the 2016 draft. I wonder what he's up to nowadays. Probably overseas..

I liked Wade Baldwin as a fast paced run the floor player. It just didn’t happen. Man he was out of the league so fast.
I just saw his name come up the other day when we signed Luka Vildoza. Him and Alec Peters (shoutout) play for the team Luka was on.

A little short for a wing, but Hardy is probably our best shot at 'that guy' in our range.
;t=6s
Ryen Russillo's direct quote on Hardy: "My least favorite draft profile I've written out yet". I don't like him either personally. Just throws up crap that has no chance of going in half the time and doesn't seem to be a very good athlete either. Inefficient offense, lackluster defense, more turnovers than assists, and doesn't have the athleticism to excite me. I don't think he'd be a projected draft pick if not for the high school hype.
Russillo is pure garbage for scouting the draft, IMO.
Hardy has a strong handle, a good iso game, long limbs that help his step-back--he could really develop into a good NBA shot maker. That said, Hardy started the G League season super inefficient and selfish, which is hurting his stock, but he really improved throughout the year and some still have him as a Top-15 guy (I don't). I'd rather try to move up for Branham if we're going for a scoring guard/wing.

I’m much more interested in what I’ve read about Branham too. I really like MarJon though. Obviously very different type of player though.

I was just never really that impressed with PBJ to begin with. I felt the same way about Jalen Johnson.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft
I don't follow college but I'm wondering if maybe it's time to consider moving on from Brook and the drop-scheme altogether. Brook brings a lot of skill to the table but Bud doesn't use him much as a rim-roaming C but instead as a floor-spacer. With Gianni's continued development as a passer and mid-range shooter, it'd be nice to find a young, athletic big to develop alongside him who can defend, rebound and finish around the rim with some high/low sets. Some of you NCAA fans can school me if there's any such PF/C type talent lurking.

This was behind my interest in Mark Williams before he played himself well out of our reach. Koloko could be a possibility for us.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft
The Ringer's latest mock has us selecting Walker Kessler at 24. From memory in this thread he'd be a pretty unpopular selection.
I'd probably be ok with it (just). He does seem like the type of prospect that tops out as 7th/8th man type guy (thinking like the Zeller brothers, although not identical in style). But a young, athletic big with good D fundamentals is nothing to dismiss late in the first round, so I think I'd be ok with Kessler depending on who else is available.

It's been popular to hate on Kessler and I see him as the least projectable of the potential 1st round Cs, but there is a lot about him defensively that will remind you of Bogut and Bogut was an outstanding defensive C. Light on his feet, very impressive awareness. Offensively, though, I think he's offensive rebounding and that's basically it. He doesn't set good screens and he's a little timid at the rim if he's contested. I don't buy his shot at all. But a block every 10 possessions (approaching a 2:1 block:PF ratio) is nothing to sneeze at.

Re: 2022 NBA Draft
By the way, KOC in the Ringer mock says that Koloko is a 3pt shooter but doesn't provide any evidence of that or acknowledge that he was 0-5 in his career at Arizona. KOC says a lot of stuff about prospects that makes me feel like he's living in an alternate universe.
