Tyus Jones, Folks... Tyus Jones!

Post#1 » by sol537 » Fri Apr 22, 2022 6:55 pm

...of the Memphis Grizzlies. You may wonder why MEM is still a great team even when Ja goes down... Tyus Jones at PG is one of those reasons. Great shooting %'s, very solid defense, amazing assist to TO ratio. His biggest knock is his 6' size but that's why he could be available to us as an unrestricted free agent this off-season.

If the NYK front office were forward-looking, they would sign this guy to a 4-year full MLE deal and not look back. He comes from winning pedigree (DUKE + MEM), is well-coached, and has a high IQ. If we are to ever get Zion to NY with RJ and Cam here, then fellow Dukie Tyus Jones would fit right in with them. Either way, he'd fit whatever it is we're trying to do... go young or a mixed approach (vet + youth).

Brunson is nice, sure, but Tyus Jones at half the price would be phenomenal. I really hope the front office is planting the seeds now through WWW and RJ backchannels.

Tyus projects to be a 14pt/7ast/4rb starter who is pass first and who plays commendable defense. Who wouldn't want that for the next 4 years? And I'm sure he'd love to have an opportunity to play starters minutes (36mins vs his current 21mins) and help us get back to relevancy.

I would dump Randle in a heartbeat, sign Tyus, and go full youth with Tyus + IQ/Grimes + RJ + Obi as our core and try to retain Mitch on a reasonable deal...

Tyus / McBride
IQ / Grimes
RJ / lotto pick
Obi / Cam
Mitch / Simms

It's so... easy. Why can't we ever have nice things?

Brun @ 30 million ??I know his stock is up, but that high?

Anyway before his stock rising I was prepared to go to 2o mill per for Brunson. Now I would pay him what Randle makes - (25 mill?) in hope of getting Randle off the team.

I like Tyus but I assume we'd have some competition for him.

Hmmm. Not against it at all.

Splits as a starter in 30 mpg:
12.7/3.2/6.6

With a 107 DEF RTG.

Also gives us the chance to really look at Quick since there's no obligation to start Jones.

Play IQ. Either he's good, or we lose. Either way, we win. Tyus Jones looks like a hobbit.

This is true. The league has been bereft of hobbits since the days of Luke Ridnour and Kirk Heinrich. It's good to have one back.

At 6'4", Kirk Heinrich was the tallest hobbit known to reside in the shire :)

NYK historically discriminates against quality talent... not looks.

Tyus can step in as a starter or a 6th man. Either way, that contract because valuable once you sign him to it and you increase his minutes to ~32. It's a no brainer... which is why the Knicks will go after Lilllard instead to pair with Randle.
