Magic Johnson on Scottie Barnes: There’s definitely a lot of ‘Showtime’ in the Raptors rookie
Johnson talked about their styles and how their personalities mirror each other’s.
“There’s definitely a lot of ‘Showtime’ in him,” Johnson told the Star in an exclusive interview while promoting “They Call Me Magic,” a series documenting his life on Apple TV Plus.
. “He can do everything on the basketball court much like myself. He’s big. He’s strong. He’s physical. He can make his teammates better like I was able to do and he’s a matchup nightmare like I was.”
“I watched Magic Johnson a lot,” Barnes told the Palm Beach Post last year. “Highlights, Instagram. You could see the smile and joy on his face. That’s something I got, smile and joy and bring a lot of fun and passion to the game.”
Despite facing an uphill climb to get back into the series, Johnson believes the Raptors can never be counted out.
“Masai (Ujiri) has done a wonderful job,” Johnson said. “You saw them win a championship a couple of years ago. He’s got all these young great players with great length and size. A great point guard. A great coach. Every year it seems like they are in the playoffs, which is the sign of a great franchise.”
