Were you let go because your company had a policy against office relationships?

On the ref check/employment verification they could ask the 'are they rehirable' question. FYI

Not against policy, she sent texts from a fight to HR. Per HR they would only say dates of employment/last title so I feel I could get away with lying but also think being upfront about it as I have my manager willing to be a referall is the best way to go. Been going back and forth all day on it after getting the interview request.

You certainly don't have to and I don't know what you do but it's a employee job market out there so if it's an in demand skill set companies aren't like looking for reasons to not hire someone right now.

But if it makes you feel better to be up front I will say most hiring managers won't care. But definitely read the room and know what type of company before making that decision.

Also if your working with a 3rd party recruiter you can be honest because we won't give a **** and we'll give you some insight on how that client operates.

Oh and office relationships. I went down that road in my 20s and I do not recommend. Scared me to the point I like to keep work and personal life so separate I won't do business with friends or family.

Keeping them seperate used to be my philosphy, but I was in a fairly grim spot because of job burnout and allowed it to happen. At the time I thought it would just make things awkward in the future if it didnt work out, didn't foresee this coming. Lesson learned.

Don't bring your personal life into work. Especially a new job.

What benefit could there be for you bringing this up?

"Why did you leave the old job?"

"I'm looking for a better opportunity for career growth."

That's it. That's all you have to say.

General fear that they'l find out but I think I'm going to go with the vague route on this one. Have plenty of money stored away to try different approaches as I feel it'l be a grind to get back into a job.

Good to hear. As someone who interviews often (I'm a consultant), be sure to have a few questions prepared to ask them.

"What do you see a typical day for me to be like?"
"What do you do to help plan someone's career path?"
That sort of stuff.

I hope all of you in WI take advantage of this beautiful day and spend it outside. Nothing beats fresh air and it's glorious today. Great day to get away from electronics and go biking and/or hiking.

Not very sunny up Nort'-ish, but 70 and a nice breeze. Was great weather for a run this morning.

Could really go for more days in the 60s now, but doesn't look like it's coming next week. I feel like sometime in the next few weeks there's just going to be a hard cut from 50s to 80s all of the sudden.

Avoid Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg unless you go to a cabin in the mountains. It's 100x worse than the Dells. We stayed in Gatlinburg Holiday Inn on points. Hotel was crappy but it was walking distance to NP boundaries so we avoided crossing town, which is probably an hour long crawl during peak seasons. Would have been miserable if we had to drive through that every morning just for a hike.

If you are driving, I really enjoyed Knoxville as a stop. Originally booked 1 night on the way back, but switched it to 2 after stopping there on the way down and upon seeing Gatlinburg. Stayed on the square where there are a lot of nice out door restaurants and walked to campus less than a mile away.

If you are in it for hiking, Mammoth Caves has always had a soft spot in my heart despite being nothing special. Multiple times I haven driven on 65, pulled into the park did an awesome hour run/hike, used their ice cold camp showers which feels amazing if muggy, and back on the road within 2 hours. Never an issue finding a parking spot/having a wait to get into the park and is free. Probably adds an hour to your drive taking 65 but at least adds variety with some stops on the bourbon trail/small towns.

Good info. We'd probably fly into Nashville and then drive (it's about 3.5 hours from Nashville to the NP). Where would you suggest to stay near the park entrance? If Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg are that congested are there other alternatives? Knoxville is only about a half hour away but then I assume I'd still hit the traffic heading into the park. Probably looking at 2-3 days to do the NP. I was in Knoxville once on business 15 years ago but don't know the area at all.

Back now. Avoid Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg if you can.Pigeon Forge is the glitzier town but further away from the national park, Gatlinburg is closer but not that nice. When I was headed out there was 4 miles of bumper to bumper traffic trying to get in that wasn't moving at all. Asheville/Hendersonville seems like a much better bet to me. I booked Sidney James in Gatlinburg which is right on the edge of the national park which made it even better than it would've been and it was still awful and not even close to peak season.

I know it wasn't the intent, but if you do end up staying in Asheville and want some in-town tips or picks let me know. Love that city; went numerous times when we lived down there.

I've wanted to come visit Milwaukee for the last couple of years or so but obviously with covid plans changed. If the Bucks make the Finals I'm considering a weekend visit for one of the games (if schedule aligns). I'm gonna lean on you guys for places to go, things to do if I do make that trip. Here's a question, though. How many days is a good amount of time to get a feel for the city? I'm a spontaneous dude, I don't like itineraries or programs beyond just doing some light research right before (or even mornings of).

I've done some light reading about it as a city, and it seems to be a candidate for a hidden gem (I love traveling). Others here have mentioned it has somewhat of a European vibe about it, namely Northern (Beer, Brats, etc.), which would make sense as to why Gianni and his family enjoy living there (?). I'm a big foodie as well and I enjoy nightlife (single/no kids). I've also seen many articles and comments about how segregated the city feels. In what ways beyond the obvious economic divide (which can be found in all cities)?

I'll keep you posted if that happens but any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated, I love traveling, learning and exploring culture.

In the summer there's quite a bit of stuff to do in the area so I'm not sure how to answer the question of how many nights. One night you could close down Wolski's (local bar), one night go to a festival, one night Uber to different breweries all while hitting the Art Museum, Public Museum, or other misc daytime activities (lake, hiking) during the day.

Thanks for the info. I live in Rochester, NY and there is a very diverse population here and yes there was "white flight" to the suburbs around the 70s-80s, until it morphed into people just outright leaving the area (rust belt city). It's about a 10.5-11 hour drive so I'd most likely fly there, though I love driving.

The city has a natural divide in the middle of the city called the Menomonee River Valley where Miller Park, err, the Am Fam is located. This natural divide (along with the freeway system) created different settlement pockets for early European settlers. As white flight took over from these areas of the cities, minority populations filled the areas. So in general, majority white population in the suburbs surrounds minority neighborhoods within the city of Milwaukee. As to if you'll notice this, it's possible depending on your activities and where you end up in your journeys.

Anyway. Tons to do in Milwaukee: Brewers games, Summer festivals on the lakefront, sneaky good food scene, lots of outdoors spots to hit close to (and in) the city.

A hugely varied night-scene, from dive bars to clubs to high end cocktails.

Happy to answer any questions closer to your trip, if you do come.

I'd also recommend staying close to where you want to do stuff, as opposed to close to the stadium (if those two don't coincide).
