We finna discuss Joel's post game comments?

Post#1 » by Dubious Handles » Sun Apr 24, 2022 5:13 pm

Per Wiretap:

Joel Embiid On Game 4 Officials "I admire the job that they did today," said Embiid. "To me, it felt like they had one job coming in here tonight, and they got it done, so congrats to them."

Sixers coach Doc Rivers took a shot at counterpart Nick Nurse of the Raptors when he was asked for his thoughts on the officiating.

“I’m not going to sit here and complain. I’m not going to, like they do," Rivers said.

So Glenn is not going to sit and complain like the Raps do...and like Joel does? Joel now biting the hand that feeds him?

I personally think both sides are in the wrong, but Embiid comes off petty here, especially since they're up 3-1. Just have your game do the talking for you. Like, why put this huge target on your back, especially when you have a bad playoff rep and come up gassed every postseason.

Please discuss.

Saying the refs were bad and saying refs had an agenda are two very different things. Joel tried to be cute but he crossed the line and looks pretty dumb, especially when you re-watch the game. I don’t think the refs will go back to treating him like 90s MJ in this series, he clearly took that for granted.

I don’t see what’s wrong with what Embiid is saying here? Seems pretty banal. There are plenty of other comments you could point to if you wanted something incendiary.

Edit: Would’ve been pretty banal if he was talking about the Raps. Saying that about the refs is no bueno.

Passive aggressive bitching under the pretense you're above it all, is worst than actual bitching. River's backhanded slap against Nurse is beneath even him.

What? You can’t accuse the league of pitting the refs against you and fixing the game. You can say they sucked but you can’t say that. Jenkins went off but he didn’t cross that line, just because Joel was passive-aggressive doesn’t mean his words don’t matter- and it’s not a fine situation, the actual quotes don’t matter, you don’t need to prove anything because the response too will be unofficial. He can say “I didn’t say that exactly” but it does not matter.

“I’m not going to sit here and complain. I’m not going to, like they do," Rivers said.

lol, Doc Rivers is one of the biggest complainers in NBA history. He's doing it right here.

Agreed, He's essentially saying the refs threw the game to Toronto so the league could get more revenue from extending the series. That's questioning the integrity not just of those 3 officials but of the league as a whole. Can't have one of your biggest stars doing that because he's in his feelings because his team lost.

Insinuating that the refs were there to help the Raptors win under the direction of the league is a pretty bad comment.

I assume this was in relation to a question about the refs not the Raptors? Because it sounds line a perfectly respectable thing to say about an opponent.

This did not cross my mind honestly, especially since the article is titled "Joel Embiid On Game 4 Officials: They Had One Job And They Got It Done".

Embiid is so unlikable. Dude gets a VERY favorable whistle so him complaining about officiating is rich. Even more so when his running mate is James Harden.

Ah that’s my bad. The OP doesn’t have the context the WT does (at least I didn’t see it) I thought he was talking about the Raptors. Yeah, you can’t say that about the refs. That’s a bad look. Very petty.

I read this as being about the Raptors originally, not the refs. Didn’t see the WT headline and the OP doesn’t have the ref context.
