Have a lot of respect for your squad. Going to be a big test for our guys. Should be a good series.

It's a shame that Middleton got hurt. If the Celtics can't get it done, I hope you guys get to represent the East in the finals. Your team doesn't spend its time whining about officials like the Sixers and I'm still mad we left the Heat off the hook in the bubble. I have nothing but respect for Antetokounmpo. He plays hard and unselfish plus he comes across as a chill dude.

Re: Official Celtics 2021-22 Post-Season Thread, 2nd Edition
Boston's meteoric ascent this season has been fascinating. I'm not sure how the match-ups will go, if Bud goes with his Jumbo lineup to start or re-inserts Allen.
Am I assuming Boston goes with G. Williams on Lopez and Timelord on Gianni? Bobby Portis tries had on defense and has the size but he's not laterally quick and could be hurt in isolation against Tatum. Middleton has the size and length and is more mobile to contest Tatum, which makes his absence troubling. Then again, and this isn't a total knock, but he didn't exactly blow by Claxton. The chess match is going to be fascinating because there will be a lot of cross-matching as, I'm guessing, Gianni may start out guarding Smart?
EDIT: Totally forgot about Al Horford, lol. My guess is he and Lopez guard each other because the Celtics will go high-screen at Lopez with Horford popping for threes.
Holiday vs. Smart is must-see TV.

I believe that you would see many different players tossed at Giannis.
Horford has played him brilliantly in the past with his heady defense, Tatum can get into him like he does Durant, And Timelord can use athleticism. Then there is Jaylen as well.

Trying to be positive.
Him off the bench as the 8th - 9th man would indeed be a boost scoring wise.

I hate it so much. Would love Celtcs to win, obviously, but Bucks are easily my 2nd choice. Now one of either Miami or 6ers will make the ECF, which is anoying. And if Embiid's hand truly is busted up, Heat will do the 2nd round easily

The bucks board is hilarious. "Yeah, they swept them....but they didn't blow them out every game... Clear indication they aren't that good IMO" xD. I can't wait to play them. Interesting logic coming from the team that needed the nets to be completely hobbled to beat them in 7 last year.

The Celtics ideally like to assign Timelord to poor shooters he can safely help off of. Especially if they hang out in the corner. But almost anybody will willingly switch onto anybody.

Horford will likely get primary assignment on Giannis among the starters and it's Grant when he comes in off bench. Timelord is likely patrolling the paint/baseline/corner assigned to the weakest offensive/off-the-dribble threat and ready to help. But Ime will mix up coverages and matchups against Giannis. Expect Smart, Jaylen, Tatum, Theis, and even White to get switched on him with a second guy always lurking like they did with KD. Harder to be aggressive with doubles against the Bucks though since all four around Giannis can shoot and they drive-and-kick, move the ball well/quickly unlike the Nets.

The Celtics can’t expect to out physical the Bucks. Cs have advantages they can exploit but the Bucks are never going to wilt away from physical play. They are going to have neutralize Giannis probably by forcing him to be a jump shooter but he is a beast who won’t back down from physicality.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

Now we wait.
Here's the last time Bucks and Celtics met. In Milwaukee.

Bucks were without Grayson Allen. Cs were without Tatum, Horford, and Timelord.

To be fair, many of us know the Celtics are the real deal. Assuming Bucks close it out tomorrow night, my guess is the NBA would want to put this on Saturday evening primetime, as it's absolutely Must-See TV. It's a very real possibility whoever survives this series goes on to win it all.
Ironically enough, I thought James Harden last season provided a better fit when facing the Bucks because of his passing. Regardless, it was entertaining watching Boston close out every game no matter how close the Nets got.

Congrats on the impressive sweep over the Nets.
Was Ainge forced out or did he leave completely on his own volition due to burnout and wanting to spend more time with grandchildren as this article below says? I know about some consequential mistakes he made with the Celtics, and every GM makes some, but it seems to me on balance he was pretty good. Looking from afar, it kind of looks like Ainge deserves half a ring if the Celtics win this year's title. Celtic fans agree or are they glad to be rid of him?
I am hoping Ainge can work some magic for the Jazz, though our previous front office didn't leave him a great hand in terms of tradable contracts and picks. The previous front office regularly gave out future picks to get rid of players with bad contracts. The cupboard is pretty bare. In addition, Jazz are getting Ainge in his grandfather years at a time when he has already said multiple times he doesn't plan to work as hard as he did with the Celtics. And he is officially the CEO, not the GM.

The evidence is right on the edge: It seems he left voluntarily, but the team wasn't sad to let him go and made no effort to retain him. E.g., they did not offer him a part-time deal like he got in Utah.
My guess to reconcile all that is that Ainge, being a high-character guy, talked to his bosses about his feelings about moving on ... and they suggested he act on those feeling.

It's DEFINITELY what Ainge did with Obie. Obie didn't want to coach a rebuild; Ainge thanked him for his honesty and wished him well, and made that all clear publically, including with a quote saying he was a huge fan of "Obie the man".
