Would you rather have Giannis’ 1 or Durant’s 2 ?

Post#1 » by Kingdibs19 » Tue Apr 26, 2022 2:41 am

Even if Giannis never wins another, I’d rather have had his career than KD’s. I feel like KD will always be looked at as a snake that took the most cupcake route to 2 Mickey Mouse championships ever whereas Giannis was hard fought and earned.

Giannis was unquestionably the best player on a title team, something you flat out can't say about KD.
Giannis also has 2 MVPs to KD's 1.
He's clearly had a better career so far when you factor age (KD with the huge lead on counting stats but also significantly older), which is impressive considering how far behind he started when they respectively entered the NBA.

Giannis and it's not even close.

Every ring has a weight assigned to it. I can't think of any rings that are lighter than Durant's.

The guy has 2 finals MVP'S and I'm much more impressed by J.J Barea's ring in 2011.

giannis 1 over kd's 10 mercenary cheap ebay rings. i dont consider kd and lebron winning rings most of time.
if you discount kds rings, you also have to discount the whole gs 2 rings with durant bc he did win fmvp.

Giannis' single ring with the franchise he got drafted by is far more impressive than KD's 2 rings with 73-9 team with 3 All-Star level players.

Why do we only highlight KD?

Giannis ring is more impressive than any ring that Lebron has won. Giannis won with Middleton and Jrue Holiday. Lebron has to have at two all stars or he wants a new team.

Durant also had to go through the Warriors when they were at their peak...if there are fans excusing Lebron's failures in the finals because he had to go up against the Warriors, why isn't that same excuse given to Durant when he is playing in the same conference....

LeBrons 2016 ring is widely recognized as one of the most impressive ever. To actually relate that to the thread topic, most people think his 2016 ring is more substantive than both Miami rings.

Likewise, Giannis journey to his ring is more substantive than KDs 2.

How brutal is it going to be for KD's legacy if the Warriors win again this year? On top of him getting swept in truly embarrassing fashion. A true 1-2 kick to the nuts for him.

Anyways, the answer is obviously Giannis.

Keep in mind, KD and Kyrie were making Giannis and his crew look like the JV squad those first 2 games before Kyrie got hurt. Then the series became competitive and KD almost single handily won it for the Nets anyways, but for his big foot being on the line.

KD, Westbrook and Harden going to the Finals as 23 year old and unders was also impressive. They just happened to run into Lebron at his physical/athletic peak, and also what was Wade's last true year of his prime. Also don't forget that the Spurs that year looked dominant down the stretch, having won something like 20 in a row from the end of the regular season into the playoffs.

The Spurs looked so good at the end of the season that people were comparing them to the 96' Bulls. They went up 2-0 against OKC in the WCFs and everyone figured it was over. Then KD and OKC backdoor swept them and won in 6 games. That was a truly impressive performance from a team as young as they were.

How is it more impressive?

They had an average season, SRS was 5.45, which would have been 4th in the West.

The only thing impressive about the Cavaliers season was that they won the title. But there is so much context to it, that you have to put all sorts of narrative to make it impressive. With injuries, suspensions that title is more about luck than impressive gameplay.

That Cavaliers claim to fame is beating a 73 win team...not being a 73 win team. So it is more that the Warriors lost that title, than the Cavaliers winning it.....

KD has only won 2 and giannis already has 1 so they are more comparable not to mention they are fighting for all time list top 10. you could make argument giannis 1 ring is better lebron's 4 cheap rings but lebron is a goat candidate.

The Bucks were even more lucky last year. They 100% would have lost if Irving did not get injured.

The Bucks minus Giannis is also a better team than the 2020 Lakers minus Lebron and the Cavs minus Lebron.

I have to say Giannis.

As a GSW fan, I have to say I was very excited to have Durant, especially the first year.

But for Durant, he had to join a 73-win team. How hard is it win one?
Same thing for LeBron. I don't even know how many chips he has, but in my opinion, if he had just stuck it out, all 20 years with Cleveland, and end up with no championships, I'd have much more respect for what he did.

I could argue that Middleton and Jrue are as good of a two-player package as Kyrie and Kevin Love. They are also close to AD and KCP, since Jrue is better than KCP by about the same distance that AD is better than Middleton.

Giannis 1 ring, especially since there was such a concerted effort from the media to get him out of Milwaukee. Just like Dirk's ring, it counts more.

I will concede that the Cavs 2016 title is not near as impressive as your mental gymnastics here.

The 2016 ring was nice, but it's the typical AAU LeBron approach. He only went back to Cleveland at the time because they had amassed an asset base that could help him stack the deck. Imagine if Giannis decided to leave the Bucks and went to the Hornets, a team with a young star + assets to trade for another, it's basically what LeBron has done to win all of his rings.
