Boston already is a championship contender with Tatum
We haven’t seen it yet.
What? Do they have to win a championship to prove they’re “championship contender”
In 2022, they had the same net rating as the all time great 96 Bulls team, they closed the season tied with Phoenix for the best overall net rating in the league. The Celtics closed the final 20 games of the season with the best offensive and defensive rating. Finished the season as one of the best records in the league against teams over .500. The Celtics were only a slight favorite against the pre season title favorite Nets team in the first round and nearly every prediction had that series going 7 games yet…the Celtics just swept them and were the only team not to lose in the first round after everyone saying it was going to be the most competitive series due to Brooklyn’s championship experienced duo. Just stop with the terrible take.
I think Tatum does everything with less usage, so it looks like Luka is doing more because he literally has the ball half the time for Dallas while he's on the floor. PER does favor Luka though (25.1 vs. 21.8), but that's a stat skewed towards per minute numbers and usage. I prefer win shares, where Tatum leads Luka (9.6 vs. 7.6). Again, Luka just 'feels' like he's doing more, but Tatum is the better overall player today.
And when they play each other, it looks like that,
Yeah, Luka is a beast, hence this thread. But that’s one game. We have hundreds of games of data and highlights and lowlights and playoffs and wins and losses, and all told, Tatum is better today. I think Luka can make a run and change that, but we’re all nitpicking at this point.
Based on what is Tatum better? Luka has better numbers, was better after ASG, Mavs has better record with worse roster and they're 2:0 against Celtics, Luka outplaying Tatum both times. The only thing where Tatum is better is +/-, which is the worst measurement of individual performance and needs much bigger sample than 80 games.
It's nothing wrong to believe Tatum is better, but it's wrong to believe your opinion matters more than anyone else, especially if you don't have anything to back it up.

Tatum has higher number in win shares because he played 11 games more. And the reason why you "feel" like Luka is doing more is because he actually is doing more. He creates 52+ points per game for Mavs via scoring or assists. Tatum for example only 38+ points.
But those are regular season numbers, Luka usually has another level or two in the playoffs that he can go to just unfortunately he is still trying to get his rhythm back, and conditioning, from not being able to play for 12 or 13 days.
All true. Luka does more, and creates more points because he’s the de facto point guard. He rarely plays off the ball. So how many points generated is going to be skewed. We just saw Tatum against an all time great and more than hold his own so talk of another level is a wash. Like I said, all advanced stars back up what I’m saying.
Oh, don't get me wrong i do think Tatum has elevated his game and he's slowly creeping into that top 5-7 players territory. Or maybe he's already there. (Just saying before Boston fans start swinging pitchforks at me).
But Luka being a point forward or pointguard, you can't really hold that against him, just makes no sense to me. It's like saying Lebron is not a top3 or top2 player of all time because he mostly played playmaker role and was generating more assists than Kareem or Bird or whoever else..
I was just trying to point out in even earlier post that Luka has crazy individual playoff stats and he mostly played against stacked LAC teams with prime Kawhi and PG13. Nets with arguably worst coach in the NBA and horrible defenders weren't such a good example of what Tatum can really do in my opinion. Will be interesting to see how far Celtics can really go, they do have a good overall team.

May I asked you, who beat Celtics in last 20 games and what was record of that team in last 20 games? You sound like Celtics were the only team that finished great RS.
Nets were 7th in RS for a reason and they had player they traded for sitting on the bench and second star not eating during the day. Celtics played great series but result wasn't specially shocking.
Luka stans know you're a Luka hater. And know this topic isn't "innocent".
I rarely come on the GB to talk about him. I stay out of those redundant Luka threads. He’s a great player for sure and you are lucky to have him on your team. I just prefer Tatum’s two way ability if I had to choose one of them. it’s also very close between them so I can see the arguments for Luka as well. If that makes me a hater then oh well
It’s like when lil bitches make subliminal records, if it ain’t directed directly at me, I don’t respect it

No, this doesn't make you Luka hater. Your past comments do.

Your Luka posts extend way back* before this topic or comparison obviously.
*By the way, there is nothing bad with actively rooting against a player or hoping you are proven right or he isn't as good as others say... it's part of the fun.

You mean when I said Ayton was the right pick for Phoenix?

Terrible take? What the **** man. This is a damn open forum, I can post whatever the hell I want whether it fits your Celtics homer brain or not. Nets might have been favorites, but that is no indication of how terribly disjointed that team was. They were relying on freaking Blake Griffin who was washed 2 years ago.

Dude get Luka’s balls out of your mouth, I don’t care what the mavs have done, I’m simply responding to the the previous poster that said Celtics aren’t championship contenders when everything they’re shown in the past 50 games absolutely show they are contenders at the very least.
Nets had the best record in the east when KD was healthy, heading into the series the talk was Kyrie and KD are the goat skilled duo. Almost everyone had this series going 7, now that the Celtics swept them you are now being a revisionist saying the Nets aren’t that good or the results weren’t shocking. It was and I don’t need a Doncic stan to say it wasn’t. You can go back to the game thread of the first Nets Celtics predictions and see what people thought was going to happen or you can look at all those “analyst experts” from espn that actually had more people picking the Nets to win the series than the Celtics

Am I wrong though? You're known "supporter" of another, now ex, Mavs player.

God for you. I see arguments are better and better.
Just giving my answer to the poll. Don't take it personal. Tatum is a better team player, and the defense he displayed in the Nets series is the kicker for me. And he's only gonna get better....not to mention he's in better shape.
