Just giving my answer to the poll. Don't take it personal. Tatum is a better team player, and the defense he displayed in the Nets series is the kicker for me. And he's only gonna get better....not to mention he's in better shape.

I give you better shape. Fat player is playing in MVP mode in last 2 months, even more impressive if you ask me.

luka is not a liability in fact the gap between them defensively is far smaller than that of offense.
offense playmaking alone can make you a mvp or out of top 10. luka is pretty much better at everything.

I admit Tatum played some good D in this games.

Yeah, Luka is a beast, hence this thread. But that’s one game. We have hundreds of games of data and highlights and lowlights and playoffs and wins and losses, and all told, Tatum is better today. I think Luka can make a run and change that, but we’re all nitpicking at this point.

Based on what is Tatum better? Luka has better numbers, was better after ASG, Mavs has better record with worse roster and they're 2:0 against Celtics, Luka outplaying Tatum both times. The only thing where Tatum is better is +/-, which is the worst measurement of individual performance and needs much bigger sample than 80 games.

It's nothing wrong to believe Tatum is better, but it's wrong to believe your opinion matters more than anyone else, especially if you don't have anything to back it up.

The advanced numbers have been posted in this thread a few times already. Check those out.

Raw numbers Luka is 28/9/9 on 45/35/75 splits. Tatum is 27/8/4 on 45/36/85 splits. The numbers are a wash except to say once again Luka is a point guard and Tatum isn’t, so his assist numbers and usage are higher. That said, Tatums ts % will be higher because of the free throw line, and he’s become an all nba worthy defender. Maybe not first team, but in the conversation. I don’t like head to head as a comparison because this isn’t tennis, or golf. It’s a team sport. Even still, gun to my head, I prefer playoff records, but I barely use that to decide. Too much room for context.

Like you said, maybe you think Luka is better, but that’s not evident in the advanced numbers nor the she test at all.

I rarely come on the GB to talk about him. I stay out of those redundant Luka threads. He’s a great player for sure and you are lucky to have him on your team. I just prefer Tatum’s two way ability if I had to choose one of them. it’s also very close between them so I can see the arguments for Luka as well. If that makes me a hater then oh well

Luka is more talented but Tatum is less heliocentric and a better defender, and with his play in the last two playoffs he has earned the right to be mentioned with Luka.
