Kyrie:What would your contract offer be if you were the Nets?

Post#1 » by Homer38 » Wed Apr 27, 2022 9:52 am

I believe he is going to opt out of his contract, so if you are the Nets, what will you do with him?

Do you still offer a long term max contract(4 or 5 years) or just short term contract(1 year or 2) or do you offer less than the max contract and take the bet that no other team will be interested in signing Kyrie because of all the drama around him?

I don't think Kyrie has leverage on this, so what will you do with him?

1 year + 1 year team option, packed to the brim with incentives.
156-1 Celtics are frauds when pressure is put on them. They would have been toast if Luka was not stupid enough to foul himself out. Enjoy this ONE finals win. There will never be another with the Js and the Celtics cant afford stacked team.
Honestly I could see Joseph Tsai letting him walk as he clearly wasn't happy with Kyrie's bush league antics of going AWOL and refusing to get vaccinated which destroyed the Nets season and was arguably the main factor in Harden wanting out. The guy was offered the same contract extension that Durant ultimately signed and he screwed it up with his own antics.

He gets a 1 year deal because you can't trust this guy period. He's the 2nd biggest diva in this league(Ben Simmons is 1st and it's funny that both were born in Melbourne even though Kai moved back to the States with his Father as a kid). He's not reliable and in the playoffs showed that outside of one game he can be easily contained. The Celtics put in all their efforts to double Durant and Irving should've capitalized but he didn't.

I could go on about how much of a homewrecker he is considering the BS he's pulled with every team he's on, but factor in that he's only played 60 games or more 4 times in his career plus the fact that he'll somehow end up injured right around the playoffs and the best thing would be to S&T him somewhere else and get assets+expiring salary if that's possible. Otherwise let him go.

Guys, the Nets don't have a lot of wiggle room. They almost have to sign Kyrie. They can't replace him or get close given their cap status. You hate yourself for doing it, but you max him now and move him later if you have to...

Kyrie just said he was gonna manage the team with KD, and you don't think he's gonna get his money?

The Nets owners and FO have let their stars walk all over them, giving into their every demand. They can be disappointed with Ben Simmons all they want but they chose this life. They sold the players on them as a franchise that empowers their players, playing part time if they want to. Nets hands are tied and they will give in to Kyrie, who got them KD.

I just dont think it makes for the Nets to offer him anything significant given his vax stance and that of the state of NY. If the team were in Florida, Texas etc. it would be non issue, but it this case it seems like a deal breaker that could have him sit out the whole season depending on the next variant or pandemic.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Because I don't believe any other team will offer Kyrie a max contract because he's been so unavailable for so many reasons in the past few years.I also don't think he's interested in playing elsewhere

Kyrie's press conferences alone are worth top dollar. Nobody in the history of the NBA has ever had a personality as great as this guy.

What league are you watching where kyrie doesn’t get whatever he wants. Stop thinking that teams have any leverage

I would not sign him and then find the next Magic Johnson in the draft with the pick from the Sixers and my galaxy brain, happy? Or trade him for a packet of chips and the lint in their pocket or something, let's get all the tired cliches out there.

Whatever he wants but he doesn't get a say in management or coaches at all. He wants to leave? Leave. S+T him wherever he goes. Trade Durant, start again. You can't give him a veto over personnel decisions, whatever you do.

You either give him the max/whatever lesser amount he agrees to for roster flexibility or get rid of him since it's not worth the headache otherwise. I don't think the covid/vaccine stuff will be an issue in the future so they stood with him thru the worst of it, can him and KD win a title? IDK, probably not but that's the hand Brooklyn is going with.

There are almost no teams with cap room.

Pistons and Magic have potential to clear space for him if they dump a few players for nothing but I don’t see a Kyrie being interested in joining those teams. San Antonio has space but he doesn’t seem like a Spurs guy. The Pacers love trying to compete always and they are the last team available.

So there’s really only 4 teams as potential FA suitors. Non seem like culture or roster fits for him.

I’d offer him a 1+1 team option max and let him know if he takes basketball seriously and the team does well we can revisit next year and extend through KDs deal. If he doesn’t give a **** then you will let him walk and blow it up. Put ball in his hands to make him show he cares.
