Do you still offer a long term max contract(4 or 5 years) or just short term contract(1 year or 2) or do you offer less than the max contract and take the bet that no other team will be interested in signing Kyrie because of all the drama around him?

I don't think Kyrie has leverage on this, so what will you do with him?

Lol

Because I don't believe any other team will offer Kyrie a max contract because he's been so unavailable for so many reasons in the past few years.I also don't think he's interested in playing elsewhere

There are a lot of desperate teams out there that are willing to put up with Kyrie being unreliable and a **** teammate to get his talent. Some team will always be waiting with open arms and a big payday for him until his athleticism slips enough to make him not that good anymore.

I agree w/ the 1+1 deal suggestion. It's less about the $$ amount for Kyrie and more about the length. You don't want to hand out a 4 or 5 year deal to a guy that may not show up to play.

A player who wants to play GM and coach? I'd actually pay him to leave, I'd drive him to the airport personally.

I don't care if you have MJ and Pip scoring 60 points between them every game, you still need other people to score the other 60. You still need the other pieces to fit and function, you still need to win a couple of games when your stars are injured, you still need to change things up and adjust in a series, you still a well oiled team defence, you still need to make the money work in the best way possible for the benefit of the team. And for all those things to happen you need to let the actual coach and the actual GM do their jobs. It's non negotiable.

Possible but only 4 teams can offer him a max contract.Just look at the post 20 on this thread

What league are you watching where kyrie doesn’t get whatever he wants. Stop thinking that teams have any leverage
Great players who can make you a contender get whatever they want. LeBron, Durant, Kawhi, Harden, Davis.
Kyrie is not that, he's like Simmons and he's percieved as a trouble maker.
Is there any team out there with cap space where he would make sense?
Teams are not piling up to ensure his services, the Nets actually can squeeze him.
His only real leverage is Kevin Durant.

He’s near 50/40/90 though he’s only had one 50/40/90 season during his career.

He will be all star or around all NBA level for T least 2-3 more seasons.

But he’s a smaller guard who turned 30 in March. People talk up his skills or handles but what people underrate is he’s a pretty explosive athlete for his size. He’s able to go at longer wings because he’s explosive and can rise over or away from contest.

How long will that athleticism hold up?

He may not show signs of decline in 3 years like Conley but there could be a noticeable difference. That fourth and fifth years at around $50 million is what you have to wonder about.

Where is he going to go? Is he actually going to go play for the Orlando Magic?

The Nets have to offer Kyrie a contract, otherwise he would threat to retire…

A contract based on games played. He only plays 20 games - he only gets paid for 20 games.

I have a feeling that Durant will walk first and the Nets will reluctantly sign Irving to save face.

The nets can squeeze him and what? have him take the min to go play with lebron? squeeze him and what make him upset? cuz we've all seen he's got no issues not playing, he's got no issues sticking to his convictions.
The nets can squeeze him, make him leave and they can easily build a team around durant with their myriad of assets.. oh wait

also lololololol at davis making any team a contender

Obviously there are a lot of factors, so it's not a perfect comparison, but consider this:

Last year before the Durant/Irving era: 2020 - 1st round sweep to the Toronto Raptors
2nd year into the Durant/Irving era: 2022 - 1st round sweep to the Boston Celtics

I'm pretty sure they'll end up re-signing him, likely to whatever max contract he wants. But I think the Nets should be doing a lot of thinking about if there other ways to build around Durant that would actually make them a better team than they are currently, but would also minimize the distractions.

You should LOL at Harden as well, now, but a couple of years ago bith were in that upper echelon that allowed them to force his way where they wanted.
Kyrie is not that, you don't have a large list of suitors for him, and that limits his margin. He can accept or do something crazy like retire or play for the minimum.
Honestly, I would take the risk rather than offer him a full max.
Let's see what the Nets will do.
