Pair him with KD contract, so 4 years max.

Speaking of Magic, since Kyrie wants to be a part time GM and part time coach to go with his current role as part time player, I think you offer him the combined total (adjusted for inflation) of what Magic made as a player, coach and GM - minus 33% because he'll have less success than Magic the player, but comparable success to Magic the GM and coach.

Max contract with a lot of stipulations (minimum games played, no off court incidents etc.)

He either gets a max contract or he leaves. One or the other. I say just give him the money since the team already signed Durant long term and still has Simmons as well.

I do not think can you put those kind of salary reductions/penalties in an NBA contract. Many players legitimately miss a large number of games due to injuries sustained while actually playing. Plus, off court "incidents" are hard to predict and subject to interpretation.

You can however, offer him a lower paying contract with incentives for playing at least x number of games, making the all star team, All NBA, winning MVP, etc. If any off court incidents are determined detrimental to the team, you can fine him for those incidents (but be prepared for the NBA Players Association to fight you tooth and nail).

The sticking point is, if you're Kyrie Irving, why would you even consider an incentive heavy contract that is less than the max, even if you think all the incentives are within reach?

They forced him to sit out away games so no they have to pay him in those games. And I'm pretty sure he couldn't get paid for missed home games.

Anyway, signing him to 4 years is idiotic and I hope they do it. I don't think there are many places he'd even want to go if Brooklyn played hardball. Any team trading for him is risking him flaking out like always.

I don't think Durant and Simmons are enough to win a championship so I don't think Brooklyn has any choice but to max him out.

If KD is signed long term, then Nets have to give Kyrie a long term deal.

I think there will be more protections in the CBA for Kyrie/Simmons antics.

I wouldn’t max him. If you not gonna win with him and can’t depend on him, how can you expect something different from this year

I suggest a contract that's flat all the way to the end, at which point it just drops off.

If I'm KD, I'm banging down Beal's door....Kyrie is just too much bs to deal with.

I'm not sure how many teams are lining up to pay Kyrie $50 million per season, especially on a 4-year deal. I'm not sure that's his market value.

He's near 50/40/90 for his career.

Let's look at teams which could use a big scorer in the backcourt.

Maybe the Raptors, Bulls, Pistons, Knicks, Pacers, Magic, Jazz, Nuggets, Clippers, Spurs, Lakers, Kings, Blazers, Thunder, Rockets.

Many of these teams would be unwilling or unable to offer him a max deal. But if KI, after the Nets decline to offer him the max, be willing to go to one of these teams? What if he's willing to do it for $30 million a year for 4 years or even $25 million?

Harden is in a similar situation, also looking at a super Max extension but it's not clear if he's going to be as good as he used to be, as he approaches his mid 30s.

They could definitely get a big contract but maybe not the max from other teams. So if their current teams give them super max extensions, it may be more because they have no cap flexibility and they can't afford to let them walk for nothing.

They will still put up numbers, maybe not as good numbers as they were putting up 2-3 years ago but at least all-star numbers. So they may have to overpay just to keep that kind of production on their teams.

Honestly for the **** he just pulled last season, i'd tell him to opt in or be prepared to sign a less than max deal long term: 4yr/100m or a 4/120m.... even that would be difficult to swallow if I were the Nets.

Play hard ball, for all his talents what team realistically would give him that stupid duper max? - Nobody is looking to pay a malcontent, undersized SG who has suited up for 103 out of a possible 246 games in the last 3 seasons combined. Especially a guy who has prioritized ME or WE.

I am not sure if any of those teams would offer him that money, even assuming they had the space to do it (and most of them don't).

Kyrie is an amazing talent and brought a lot of excitement to the organization with his initially signing but I think the marriage has to end. It's just too toxic at this point. This is the most talented Nets teams yet one of my least favorite Nets teams since I began following them in 99. I would not offer a contract, let alone a max contract

Do you still offer a long term max contract(4 or 5 years) or just short term contract(1 year or 2) or do you offer less than the max contract and take the bet that no other team will be interested in signing Kyrie because of all the drama around him?

I don't think Kyrie has leverage on this, so what will you do with him?

What league are you watching where kyrie doesn’t get whatever he wants. Stop thinking that teams have any leverage
Great players who can make you a contender get whatever they want. LeBron, Durant, Kawhi, Harden, Davis.
Kyrie is not that, he's like Simmons and he's percieved as a trouble maker.
Is there any team out there with cap space where he would make sense?
Teams are not piling up to ensure his services, the Nets actually can squeeze him.
His only real leverage is Kevin Durant.

But that only leverage is pretty significant. The Nets organization already opened Pandora's box and gave the power to both KD and Kyrie. You can't play hard ball now. There's no takebacks. The real reason they went to Brooklyn was because of what they were promised in terms of power and the privileges they can enjoy, to chill and play basketball pressure free. They get to play in New York on their terms, not under what an owner like Dolan dictates. KD and Kyrie are a package deal. It's either you trade them both or max them both.
