Do people still believe Embiid wouldn't be hunted by the Warriors?

Post#1 » by Cubbies2120 » Thu Apr 28, 2022 3:40 pm

I've seen some Embiid fans talking about how Embiid wouldn't be getting "cooked" by the Warriors, but based on his play in the Raptors series, what makes you so confident?

Here's a little sample of what the Raptors have been doing to him when he's forced to defend the perimeter - It's 1 minute long so I hope people watch it before commenting:

https://streamable.com/cczt14

He's getting blown past by players like Precious Achiuwa, OG Anunoby, Pascal Siakam, who aren't as quick as Steph Curry.

And as a quick sample of a weaker Warriors team (No Klay, worse Poole), here's what they did to Embiid when he tried to guard Steph on the perimeter

So, my question is this:

What, based on the evidence we have, makes you think that Embiid would have more success vs. a quick 3 guard lineup than Jokic did?

Keep in mind Jokic was also defending while literally carrying the offense all game, dealing with a Box-and-1 zone, etc.

IMO only Giannis & Bam would stand a chance at guarding the perimeter and that's partially because they've also got great defensive personnel on their team allowing them to commit to defending the shots.

"Y'all" is Cubbies throwing the cape on and logging on for his 9-5 RealGM shift every time something unfortunate happens to Jokic.

the chance of Embiid facing warriors is like 1%. He should worry about getting out of the east and we should worry about getting out of the west.

I flipped around the video you posted OP - maybe from around the 5:20 mark when Steph dots Joel in the eyes and then up until the rest of the game. Essentially the clutch / guts of the game. Embiid was very active defensively and moving his feet really well.

I don't think player scoring is always equivalent to good or bad defending, or effort. Sometimes it's just better O.

I'm not sure you can call this anything other than a stone footed sieve falling asleep.

In the video I posted we saw exactly the same thing with Embiid (who was not in foul trouble) getting absolutely smoked, and that was with no threat of Poole/Klay that Jokic had to deal with.

In this case, the same thing happened to Jokic, who was also in foul trouble and couldn't afford a timeout (as we saw, he scored 12 points in like 4 minutes, something I don't think Embiid has ever done in his playoff career to close a game, let alone against a generational defender).

You sure you wanna play that card Mr. 6000+ posts in less than 3 years? Who really spends their 9-5 here?

Keep deflecting though, I'm sure Ewing - err I mean Embiid will eventually win some awards/rings/first team awards one day :D

An Embiid-led team will never win a championship, especially when Harden is his #2, another guy known for fading in the playoffs....
If Embiid had just shot like 40% from the field in the 7 game series, Philadelphia would have eliminated Toronto in 2019, but he shot 37%.
He's just not masculine enough, whether its physical or mental, he always comes up short.

Which is a damn shame, with his physical skills he should be our generation's Shaq...but he's just not very tough and prefers to get his points from the line...

At drawing fouls, and that's about it.

I assume you didn't watch the video where GOAT offensive players like Achiuwa are leaving him in the dust.

In fairness to Embid & Jokic no big or small for that matter can guard Chef Curry. Just ask Gobert:

That video really illustrates how poor the Philly defense is

No one rotates, no one's trying hard to recover, they basically just stand there and watch Embiid get cooked. Green has fallen off a cliff and Maxey/Harden/Harris are all below average to bad defenders. Honestly they probably will get destroyed by GS motion offense, and I can see Embiid struggling against Draymond

People with room-temp IQ realize there are about 2 "bigs" in NBA history that can actually stay with quick guards. Embiid aint one of them. He's got a good wingspan to challenge shots and he's a very good rim protector. He is absolutely not able to guard players like Curry, Morant, prime Westbrook, CP3, Jamal Murray, etc.

It's just too much for a C and that's not even a knock on him, only dumbasses with a specific homer agenda would expect a Center to stop guards in space.

That said, Jokic is indeed the MVP and is better than Embiid. Put Embiid on that Nuggets team and they're not even in the playoffs. Give Jokic a team with Maxey, Harden, Tobias and he's going to the WCF.

Given how great Jokic is at carrying weak teams, if he ever has a highly talented roster to work with (or healthy roster) he may be the player most likely to win a bunch of rings. Plus he's rarely injured, so should have great longevity, plus the skills to be a dominant player into his late-30s. If only he could find some all-star teammates who don't get hurt so often.

I had to think to myself when these teams were matching up in a series and then realized it was a Jokic vs Embiid fanboy type thread. Ughh...

Ohhhhh. It was the foul troubles for why that Nuggets big stood flatfooted as the game clinching layup whizzed past his face.

Thank god he didn't foul out!

That coupled with the hamstring injury. I guess the thumb injury is preventing Embiid from moving his feet and getting blown past by GOAT-tier offensive players like Precious and OG.

Agreed though thankfully he didn't foul out earlier in the 4th because he dropped 12 pts in like 4 mins, without which the Nuggets lose by double digits.
