Realistically only 3 options, sorted by games he played for them.

Always Rockets, as he was the most important for the Rockets.

Actually, this is a great question since no specific team popped into mind. I’d say the Rockets, though, as he was most important to those runs, but damn was he really good on those late ‘90s Lakers’ teams.

Still helpful for them in 2001, and even more so in 2002. The whole three-peat. His absence was a huge problem in 2004, for sure.

His ice-cold shooting was also a problem in 2003 :banghead:

It's true, he couldn't buy a 3 that year. 0/18 against the Spurs, just ice cold. And then promptly dipped to them, lmao, and won two more rings with them.

EDIT: Sidebar, but Shaq/Horry from 99-91 is 8th in Backpicks' top 3-year playoff offenses by relative ORTG at +9.2

In answer to OP, I don't know. What team in the NBA is 1 or 2 clutch 3 pointers away from a ring?

His best years were probably on the Eddie Jones Lakers through 00 or 01. He transitioned out of his prime somewhere in there.

Rockets for me, but that's instinctive, rather than intellectual.
I think it's because I first saw him there, and what he brought to the table was a little less common than it later became.

Lakers, but his greatest playoff game was game 5 of the 2005 NBA Finals where he destroyed Detroit.

Honestly, Spurs due to that Detroit game.
This place is a cesspool of mindless ineptitude, mental decrepitude, and intellectual lassitude. I refuse to be sucked any deeper into this whirlpool of groupthink sewage. My opinions have been expressed. I'm going to go take a shower.

Rocket, then Laker. Spurs a distant 3rd.

Some of you may be too young to remember this but Robert Horry was actually traded to the Pistons in 1994 just before winning his first ring, but Sean Elliot failed his physical and the trade was canceled. He was sent back to the Rockets and the rest is history, they went on to win the title later that year, then repeat, and Horry would of course go on to be a part of 5 more championship teams. Interesting to ponder how his career trajectory could have been altered if that trade stood.

Him putting the nails to Detroit WAS really nice to watch. I loved hating that era's Detroit squad, they were the villain I needed in my NBA storyline at the time. Very good, kinda like the Bad Boys of old, just... they suited as the bad guy. As much as I was rooting against them at the time, I'm glad they squeaked out a ring, but I loved watching them lose.

Rockets. Amazing athlete and two-way F.

I think his playoff runs for Houston grant him a Horace Grant level Peak. Maybe higher.
Swinging for the fences.
