I doubt even Harden of 4 years ago could carry this team with no bench and no Embiid over this deep ass Heat team which is great on both ends but he needs to come out all guns blazing now that without Embiid he is the top dog and bark the loudest.

Play freelance basketball and go hell for leather and play with no pressure. Just ball out and who knows it might help to get a split on the road till Embiid can hopefully come back by game 3 or 4

Harden isn't going to carry the team by his lonesome, but the team needs exceptionally good performances from him and others to compensate for Embiid's absence.

Successfully compensating for Embiid's absence isn't likely to happen by way of a single player's exceptional game, but the key players on the team -- most notably Harden, Maxey, and Harris -- certainly have to realize that their typical games aren't likely to do the trick, and that they need to rise to the occasion with exceptional games for them.

There is only one ball on the court and Embiid won't be touching it at any time, in contrast to his typical usage. That means there will be plenty of opportunity for other players to have exceptional games. The question is, will they.

We’re just gonna spam PnR and hope that Harden can create enough quality shots (and others can hit them). Maxey has a significant athletic advantage in this series and will need to exploit that if we’re gonna have any hope. I’m kinda excited to see how it plays out because everyone is playing pretty well right now.

16 points on 13 shots and 5 assists…could have been 8 assists or so with missed shots. But damn is it disappointing that we thought we finally traded for a legit perimeter scorer and got a mediocre PG looking to pass before score.
No idea where this team goes in the off-season. Thank god we hit on Maxey to give a glimmer of hope

If that’s the effort the team is going to get from Harden the playoffs are over, with or without Embiid.

The only one of the three noted above who showed up in that regard was Harris.

His lapdance obsession holds no boundaries, rather strip club or game , receiving one or giving one.

Maybe the sixers should sneak one of his faves in during halftimes, for a little boost or pick me up. Anything to help this dude step it up.

I remember this being the rumor when the trade went down:

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/266800/James-Harden-May-Take-Less-Than-Max-Deal-With-Sixers

I think cap gurus at the time said that we could potentially open up another max slot if Harden took less than the max, but I may be misremembering.

I think it's definitive at this point that the team's future hinges on paying Harden in such a way that some other player is paid a great deal and becomes the additional player needed to get this team to a championship. In that sense Harden's salary, if it's too high, could be championship prohibitive.

He has to take less than the Max if he has any intention to win a championship before he retires.

I think he's already worth 500+ millions, it wont change his life, winning a championship would.

He should watch Inside the NBA and see how annoying everyone is to Barkley about not winning a championship before walking into negotiations. He can easily close out his career as a 15 & 10 guy on a good contract and possibly a championship or two if he adds flexibility to our cap situation.

He'll also be beloved in Philly because we pay attention to that kind of thing.

I mean if that's the case the trade should've just been made for Haliburton, who makes peanuts, plays at that level already, may have a higher ceiling he plays up to in the future, and shoots better from three.

Well, I said close out his career. Presumably he can play the 20+ and 10 for more than this year. I also think the Sixers were anticipating a better Harden when he returned (can even say returns) from his hamstring injury. I don't know if there are any lasting effect from that. Either way, we have what we have now. Additionally Haliburton was a sub .200 FTr player at Sacramento. There aren't many stars in the league who can't draw fouls. He was slightly better in Indiana, but I'm curious how good of a player he'll be moving forward.

If Harden took a discount to stay here with us, my overall perception of him would change dramatically. To me he can still play at a very high level, he's just not what he was 3 years ago in Houston. He's officially become a point guard at this point which is very impressive. He's definitely worth keeping around as long as he isn't expecting a supermax or bust type of offer.

Not sure why he would need to consider taking less, More is going to pay him whatever he wants. Daryl is obsessed with James.

Harden might take less…How about the MLE? How much are above average point guards that can’t defend worth nowadays?

This teams problems go far beyond James Harden. If he is willing take significantly below the max say 35 million a year I would extend him. But this is a frakenstein's monster roster. Super top heavy with no margin for error because after our top 4 players the rest of the roster is comparable to a lottery team. Meanwhile all the real contenders go at least 8 deep with good players.
