To answer FNQ, what I meant is the idea that Orlando is a Gobert trade away from a high seed relies on far too many things going exactly right.

For example, you're relying on Isaac remaining healthy when he never has. You're relying on Suggs to carry an offensive load when that's never been his game. You're relying on consistency from young offensive options (Anthony/Suggs). And so on.

I do think Gobert has value to a lot of teams, I don't think he's the kind of guy that a team like Orlando basically abandons their rebuild for.

I think abandoning their rebuild is overstating it - they would be committing WCJ, Bamba and a couple of lotto protected 1sts to get a true defensive anchor at C.

Sure they can wait, but its not like defensive anchors at C become available via trade, and Gobert's large contract will be a deterrent for a lot of teams, leaving ORL the opportunity to strike. I mean they can go forward with WCJ and Bamba plus the 2 firsts which are far likelier to be in the lottery if they don't do the trade, but this at least gives them a finite definition as a team, and they can use FA and/or their 2022 1st to get better offensively as well. But to be clear, their rebuild is Suggs/Franz/2022 FRP.. WCJ and Bamba don't seem to have the upside that rivals Gobert's current status.

And hell if any team knows how important getting a defensive anchor is, its ORL.. going from Dwight to Vuc, and then spending a high draft pick on Bamba who's been a roller coaster.. I'd have to think they would love that stability at a non-prohibitive cost

Gobert is exactly what the Magic are about. It's the age of Gobert that is the concern. If Magic can look past the age then yeah, Gobert fits that franchise.

Yup, especially because the fall for guys like Gobert is extremely quick. So the Magic would have to assume he's opting in at 33.. so they'd likely only be getting him on this contract. Which probably is for the best, 4 years of an anchor you can count on is a pretty good return for what they are paying.. which I think the Jazz wouldn't like tbh. Probably would want a consolidated asset if they could instead of Bamba, 2 firsts and a PTBNL PF

I think the other big hurdle is if they can, and want to, draft Chet. Chet won't need 4 years behind someone, so making this trade and then drafting him would be overkill at the C spot. But if they got Banchero instead (he's my #1), then have Banchero and Isaac splitting the PF minutes and Banchero being the 'smallball' C when Gobert is sitting? Man I love that for them

Yah, I don't think there is anything in that package that gets Utah to even consider trading Gobert to Orlando. Bamba (who is not even an average starting center) and lottery protected firsts as the central part of the deal (I know, plus whatever WCJ fetches --- but we can assume that if they are trading for WCJ it's because they don't want to pay the price for Gobert so there's no reason for them to include more than Orlando is including ... if that makes sense) is not appealing...not even a little bit. Directionally I also think it's wrong for Orlando. Who cares if he is similar to what they are building, when they are absolutely dreadful and Chet + Wembenyana are in back-to-back drafts and they already have a bunch of front-court players that they don't truly know what they are capable of because they've all missed a ton of time?

Yeah if Magic get Chet then they don't do this trade. If they get Banchero/Jabari then this trad makes sense. They'd be a playoff team again. They could really leap into a great team in one offseason.. They'd need to upgrade the backup SG/SF spot too, maybe in FA. Not a big fan of RJ, Ross, Okeke.

By "abandoning their rebuild" I mean...leaving that path, if that makes sense?

I don't mean they'd be selling the farm to get Gobert, but that Gobert would make them too good to get high draft picks to add to their core. They would shift to trying to compete, since Gobert has a shorter window than the rest of their core. And I'm not sure if Gobert is worth doing that for.

Hope that clarified things a little.

Gotcha, I get it now. It does pose some risk as to make them a treadmill team. I don't think so, but thats also assuming health. Because from a player tracking standpoint, the combo of Franz/Isaac/Gobert looks amazing, because they theoretically complement each other very well too. But that health thing is a HUGE if at this point because of Isaac

But also as noted above, Jazz probably arent interested in parting out Gobert, at least not right now. I'm really down on what I think his market will be relative to the trade board's general opinion I've seen. But having said that, I think the offer I put in is still towards the low end. We'll see how it plays out

That team has garbage spacing though. Suggs shot was a mess this year, fultz is Fultz. Anthony is an inefficient chuckrr. Wagner is the only above avg shooter (37% only) but not elite. Thats one ugly team on offense.

Don't want the Raptors to trade Pascal, but if I'm a Grizzlies fan, I'm doing whatever I can to get Ja a second star. He's incredible. All Grizzlies need to get to that next level is a 3/4 wing who can defend, create for others and go get a bucket when they have to

Would need to be a grinding halfcourt team, but if they have Suggs/Ross/Franz and then add Paolo on top of that, that's a passable enough offense paired with an elite defense. Plus they can still, theoretically, search for a scorer or true PG in free agency. Just spitballing, but if they could move Anthony for a bench scoring wing, sign Ricky Rubio with a MLE.. you bring in a great PG defender who's great at setting up spot shooters like Ross and Franz.

I'm just saying if I were an ORL fan, I wouldn't turn it down. I think they are way better than their record shows, and I still believe in Suggs' borderline star potential. I'm a huge believer in Franz being an elite 3&D type too.. I wish we took him instead of Kuminga for sure

The hope is that Bane and/or JJJ can step up. Bane was awesome against the Wolves but has been hurt most of the Warriors series. JJJ is inconsistent on offense and foul prone. Ziaire is also a bundle of potential but you don't know what he will actually become. Agreed though that Memphis needs to try and find another true star somehow. Bane looks like a sub/fringe-allstar caliber player and JJJ looks like a DPOY who can't stop fouling. Really need that second true star like you said. I'd love to get Pascal but I don't think Memphis would offer a package that makes sense for Toronto.

Agreed on the Grizzlies/Raptors. I love Ja's game so much, I almost wish there was a second Pascal Siakam in the league to go play there. Do you think Jerami Grant might be a fit? Could be acquired without touching Bane or JJJ in all likelihood.

I think it depends on what Grant wants. I don't know if he wants to go back to the reduced role we would expect him to play. If he is willing to take that step back then yeah I could see him being a potential target for us if better opportunities don't come along.

A 'PSA' to regular posters on T&T Board

Post#16 » by Bentley1225 » Wed May 4, 2022 6:28 pm

Ive been posting on the board for 15 years and have learned a lot and respect a significant amount of posters who have great opinions/perspectives.

On that note, I had an idea to start and host a podcast to leverage the expertise/passion/insight of posters on here. It wouldn't necessarily be affiliated with Realgm, just an independently produced podcast with a regular stream of guests who post on here and have done so consistently for years.

I just feel the collective group of posters on here are as good as, if not better, than high profile formal NBA broadcasters discussing NBA potential and actual transactions along with hypothetical trades. I have lots of ideas for show topics that are unique but would welcome others.

Would anyone be interested in taking part?. There would be certain criteria for eligible guests from this board as I can only manage a finite number so the more senior guys/girls, mods, etc. Id look to join.

Private invites might be the best way to do it.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Merged this with the general thread just so we don’t have a precedence and have too many people advertising personal things on here (by no means want to discourage it though. Want everyone to pursue everything they want and succeed in it). Private invites may be very fruitful too. Thank you!

Also, as an aside I merged it on my first try without having done mod things in like a year. So if anyone needs me, I’ll be patting myself on the back.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.
