That’s great- I thought they had to wait until July when free agency started

This seemed like a really likely signing, but great to get it done early!!

Great, great deal. Love Roco. Good chance he's our starting PF next year.

This really signals the end of Mook here, as well.

WONDERFUL

he was the player i was the most worried about losing this offseason. i was going to be miserable if we never got the chance to see covington play with our full lineup.

now to "lose" marcus morris. oh no!!! (heh)

i know it's hard (ok, literally impossible lol) to project anything concrete right now in terms of our starting lineup, but i very much am imagining it'll be some version of zubac/covington/kawhi/pg

with the 5th either reggie or possibly powell.

No real surprise here (other than how soon the deal was signed), since it was love ar first sight for both sides.

I really want to run it (mostly) back and see what we look like with Kawhi/PG healthy (knock on every piece of wood) for at least the first half of the season. The players definitely want to stick around too. Batum will surely return, and I don't see Hartenstein getting some crazy offer somewhere else. No clue what the Coffey market looks like, but it would feel strange to let him go just as he's developed into a solid bench guy.

Now let's see what the FO does about the minutes distribution. Can't hold on to every valuable asset just in case our stars go down. Also probably shouldn't go full "championship or bust" for next season. Hope they can find a middle road.

Mook + someone else should be enough for a nice little upgrade. Problem is we also need to keep some younger legs around, and most of our moveable pieces (Luke, Mann, Zu, rookies) are just that.

So yeah, looking forward to an exciting off-season. Whatever happens, we're still playing with house money after pulling off the Norm/RoCo deal. If only we could trade for guaranteed health.

agree

morris seems like the clear choice to go, but if we plan on keeping batum around then i do think one of kennard or mann need to go. it seems pretty reasonable to do some combo deal with morris and one of the other to try and upgrade at PG - i just don't know who that'd be off the top of my head, though i do know that true likes a deal with the spurs.

i think it's a tough spot because if you're devoting resources to a smaller wing like powell, you probably should keep the bigger of the two of mann/kennard. but if you give up luke, you give up our best shooter, too. still, at the end of the day kennard makes more, probably is more portable/valuable to certain teams, and mann has more across-the-board versatility. the team is not going to be lacking in shooting even if we move luke.

I feel the same way, but Kennard is such a great shooter that it makes me apprehensive to move him unless a significant need (point guard, more versatile big man) is addressed

They will most likely keep Powell as the 6th man, Powell has very little in passing skills, he's more like a SF in a small guards body.

While trading Morris after the Covington resigning seems to be the most reasonable move forward, I don't think there is a situation where we need to trade him just for trading. Unless we get a targeted player, Morris should be on the team for depth and I'd easily welcome that.

For example, PG13 played only 48, 54 and 31 games in the last 3 regular seasons. While our other 30+ aged star Kawhi's numbers are 57, 52 and 0. Speaking of which, let's not forget another veteran Batum, he played only 67 and 59 games respectively, in the last 2 seasons. Tu sum it up, there is simply no guarantee any of these guys can play 60 out of 82 games next season. If we stay out of playin zone and have an easy way to the playoffs without putting to much burden to our veterans we have to get 60 win with only play them less then 60-65 games. And hope for some luck on the health department.

Another thing I want to touch on about Morris is the exaggeration of the impact of his lack of rebounds. There were several factors on the decrease of rebounding this season comparing to 2021. First, It was definitely a negative factor for this season that Kawhi and George, who are good rebounders for their positions, were absent from the majority of the games, replaced by average to below average rebounders such as Norman, Coffey, Kennard, Bledsoe, Mann. In addition, we should not ignore the fact that Pat Bev, who is a good rebounder for his position, replaced by a bad rebounder Reggie Jackson. Lastly, we had to play too much small ball due to injuries that Zubac the team's best rebounder, took very little role in many critical games on the season. To me, we seem to be billing Morris too much by all these reasons. I'm not even sure if it would still matter if it was Giannis at PF instead of Morris to not outrebounded easily.

If we are in the zone to nail a trade for needs such as bigs like Turner, Wood, Collins level of hoopers yeah, sure trade Morris. But anything less than that, I'd rather keep my big shot maker, Lakers killer for the depth reasons we surely gonna need.

There is only one variable that will change what I have said for the role of Morris, and his name is Brandon Boston Jr.. If he's ready at all? I guess we won't find out until preseason?

Big Hart is an unrestricted FA, I believe, one whom I'd target if I was another team... We need this domino to settle before determining what can be done with Morris?

(but yes, a long 4/5 that can sprint of the Turner-Wood-Collins type would seem so ideal)

I'd keep them all considering Kawhi and PG have missed 49% and 36% of all games in the past 3 years, there will be plenty of minutes to go around.

Covington was extended, which pays him a little more than the MLE he would be offered as a UFA. Clever move by the FO, squeezing him through this little window.
