Re: OT: NFL Draft Thread
I was just thinking about the Giants' 3-4 defense and how things are shaping up.
Love (FS) McKinney (SS)
Bradberry? (CB) Jackson (CB)
Thibodeaux (LB) Crowder? (LB) Martinez? (LB) Ojulari (LB)
Ward (DE) Lawrence (NT) Williams (DE)
I'm not in love with this group....inside linebacker right now is a huge question mark for me...and can we really afford to dump Bradberry now?
On the bright side, Thibs and Ojulari are going to be absolutely causing chaos.

I see Will Levis being the one mocked to the Giants so far

Next years draft has multiple quality QBs going top 10, why would we draft a mediocre one this year and waste a pick?
exactly. The chances of us making the post season are really slim especially when you take a look at the roster objectively. We're going to land a good prospect next year at QB.
This isn't the season I'm worried about. As long as we see a disciplined, modern age team going out there and showing improvement from week to week win or lose, I'm good. Next year we draft our next franchise QB (hopefully) and Schoen will have cap room to work with.

It's going to be a weird season for Daniel Jones knowing it's his final year with the Giants and playing for a contract.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!
As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

I don't see why cutting Bradberry should be a priority at this point. Keep him until the deadline, see if there are any takers at that point and if not dump him in the offseason where that extra money will matter. They need DBs in the worst way right now.
I can see Beavers earning the starting MLB spot over Crowder at some point this season. He has a lot of versatility in his game that Wink will like to use.

From what I last saw on sporttrac, the Giants only have 5 mil in cap room to work with and we have to still sign this year's draft class so Schoen may not have a choice.

Re: OT: NFL Draft Thread
As far as the Giants draft I think they picked the guys that they had to pick even though it may not be as flashy as the Jets picks or address more serious concerns about this team going forward.
Yes Sauce Gardner would have and should have been the guy for the Giants at 5 and they probably was hoping that the Jets took Thibodeaux at 4. But once the Jets went Gardner taking Thibodeaux kind of was a no brainer IMO. There is concern about Thibodeaux and it's hard to not worry about all the chatter about how he's not always tuned in or his focus is lacking or that he may not be able to handle the attention he'll get in NY, this and that but from a pure talent/upside standpoint he's got as much as anyone in this draft.
For the Giants their great teams always had that one guy that could pass rush like nobodies business and Thibodeaux potentially gives them that next JPP type guy. That's huge assuming Thibodeaux can live up to his talent. Is it a risk? Yep. But if it wasn't then he'd not have been available for the Jets at 4 much less the Giants at 5. If KT can live up to the hype no one will care who else the Giants drafted in this draft.
As far as Evan Neal goes? He's generally considered a stud OL that may not have the same kind of upside as Ickey Eckwonu but he's the safer (more of a sure bet) of the two. Yes it would have probably generated more buzz had the Panthers taken Neal and left Eckwonu at the Giants feet but the value of both these guys are very similar at the end of the day. And I think Neal's more sure thing offsets the uncertainly of Thibodeaux. Neil addresses the Giants biggest need heading into the draft and we all know that the Giants biggest problem in recent years is protecting Daniel Jones and giving Barkely enough room to run. Without it you have Jones being discussed already in the past tense and Barkley injured from taking pounding after pounding after pounding.
Could they or should they have gone for someone else at 7? I mean who else could they have gone after? Neal was ranked at times as a top 2 or 3 pick. They could have gone with one of the WR's I guess? Would Drake London, Garrett Wilson or Jameson Williams have been a better pick? I'm not sure about that. They may have been more exciting picks. The only other guy that would have made sense at 7 may have been Kyle Hamilton?
The Giants 2 biggest needs going into the draft was OL and DE and they got 2 guys that were at times considered to be the top players for their position. That's pretty damn good.
The rest of the picks? That's really where things get a little bit dicey for me. Wan'Dale Robinson is a big questionable to me. I don't see him as a worth a 2nd round pick nor any better than the many WR's that's already on the team (especially the Giants 1st round pick last year). I agree with a lot of the mocks that he was a day 3 guy and they could have gotten him later on. In fact there were at least 3 WR's taken after the Giants pick that would have been better IMO had they stuck with taking a WR (Tyquan Thornton from Baylor, George Pickens from Georgia even though he is injured and if they wanted a smaller speedy WR, Skyy Moore would have been (much) better).
I wasn't a fan of trading back for more picks either and was glad that the Jets moved up by shedding the extra picks they had. Now don't get me wrong I'm glad that the Giants traded that 36th overall pick to the Jets so they could draft Breece Hall but honestly the Giants themselves probably should have just stayed at 36 and taken Hall themselves. So...yeah ouch.
The rest of the guys they drafted were ehh IMO. But it's hard to knock a draft where they got Kevon Thibodeux and Evan Neal.

I think the defensive line is:
Lawrence (DE) Ellis (NT) Williams (DE)
Justin Ellis starts at nose tackle and he knows Wink Martingale’s system.

Hall is a better fit for the Jets than us right now. We needed to add line depth and secondary pieces. Offensive Skill position players are the last thing I'm concerned about tbh. We can load up on that next year when we draft our next QB. If our play in the trenches improves after this draft i will consider it a success.
The jury for me is out on Robinson until the fall. I don't know what Daboll plans to do with him. The fan in me hopes that this guy is some kind of steal instead of a reach but being objective about it, I can't dismiss everyone's concerns about his size, weight, and lack of wing span.

Bradberry is for sure getting cut, and you KNOW there will be injuries. There is absolutely no depth at any of those positions. Our defense is going to be bad this year. That's almost guaranteed. The thing I'm interested in watching is how Daniel Jones plays in this new system and with the new o-line he's got. The weapons aren't out of this world, but they are sufficient. He is going to be let off the leash by Daboll, time to show what he's got. If he's good, we're probably not making the playoffs still, but we'll have a mid first round pick - good enough to get some nice talent on defense. If he's bad, we're drafting in the top 5-10 and we're taking a new QB. I'm ok either way.

Loved the Hall pick by the Jets. Hall is a heck of a RB and has the ability to see and hit the holes in the defense real well. He's a game breaker type as a runner because of how well he see's openings and attacks it with great body control and explosive first (and second, and third, etc.) step(s). He's also strong like a bull and able to gain yards after the hit. But what really helps is Hall's ability to catch passes and then gain yards after the catch because of his top tier athletic ability. That should allow the Jets be more dynamic offensively and give Zach Wilson another weapon. I believe Hall scored athletic test scores that matches the elite RB's in the NFL today so that says a lot. Also while Michael Carter was a surprise for the Jets last year at RB, I don't think they want to rely on him to be the RB1. Hall has the potential to be one.
Ruckert was a solid pick that isn't as splashy or with as high an impact upside as the other guys picked ahead of him. I don't think he'll be a featured guy in terms of passing with the Jets and probably will serve more of a blocking or play action type guy or maybe on special teams. The Jets added a lot of impact offensive players this offseason including signing 2 TE's in free agency and I just don't think Ruckert has shown enough that he'll be considered as someone that will be a big part of their offense for the near future.
I probably would have looked at a defensive lineman instead with the Ruckert pick.
Definitely agree on Hall. Seeing his college production and play, I feel like we got a steal even if heads think that's a bit high to draft an RB in this day and age. I think the math's a little different if you're getting a potential every-down back. He really has homerun hitter potential.
Ruckert is interesting to me. I guess the depth there makes sense because they want to be able to run an aggressive offense even if one of their top two goes down. I've heard some scouting types say that he's a much more versatile receiver than his college play lets on, but I wouldn't be able to tell like that. I like that he's a quality blocker and a local kid.

Interesting update: This would help some

These dudes looking competent. Just need to translate. If Jones is not the guy, finding our QB is going to be fun.

Better for drafting a QB in 2023, so that's an upside.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!
As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.
