Who is the worst positioned team for the rest of the decade?
Taking into account any factors you think are relevant such as future draft picks, contract situation, and quality of ownership/management, who are the contenders for the worst positioned team in the league for the remainder of the 2020s? Which team is at the very bottom?
One way of thinking about it is to ask which teams will win the least number of games over the next 7 seasons, or appear in the lowest number of playoff series.

It's always hard to say, since things can change quickly. The obvious answer is the Sac Kings-just because of past history of mediocre-to-bad teams. Their core is ok now, and one stud could move them up
The Lakers could really suck for a few years, then clear their cap and add 2 superstars. If Wash resigns Beal to a huge deal, they could be below average for years

There are 4 teams that mortgaged their future, Bucks, Clippers, Nets and Lakers (shorter time).
Bucks have Giannis, young, dominant player, and Middleton and Holiday still have 2 excellent years in them.
Clippers are deep pocketed team, they will always be able to buy talent.
Nets are heavily reliant on old KD and instable Kyrie, Lakers are screwed for the next 2 years, they'll need a miracle to pull something off, but should be fine after that.

1. Kings — Poverty franchise with horrible ownership who can’t seem to do anything right. (Sorry kings fans)
2. Orlando — Similar to #1. Both these teams have a good shot at a top-3 pick next month so maybe they strike gold. We’ll see.
Wild Card Teams:
Lakers — No draft picks for the next 2 years and their 3 best players are old, injure prone and/or declining. They're saved by the fact that they’re in LA and are an illustrious franchise, and will therefor inevitably attract talent + they’ll likely trade AD soon for draft picks if they have another poor season.
Clippers — They mortgaged their future for Kawhi and PG. This all depends on if Kawhi, who turns 31 next month, returns healthy and looking like the same player or not. If he does, they’re contenders. If not, they’re gonna have to trade PG or he can walk for nothing in 2025.
OKC — They have some young talent and a plethora of draft picks, but at some point you gotta put a mixture of young and veteran players together and start winning some games. They’ve been tanking for what seems like a hot minute now. The next 2-3 seasons will be quite telling for Sam Presti.

Would this Team qualify considering next 8 yrs - they look ok for about 1 more year then Kaput.
The team with a man of glass at next 5 yrs and 230 mill.
Also about to sign a dropped off a hill ex supa star a BIG max extension. (say 45 per)
Only bright light is an up n comer starting 3rd year next season - (soon needs to to be paid).
Already in Luxury Tax.
3 Future 1st round picks traded.
Toxic Fans , no players want to go there unless they over pay.
I nominate Philly.

Bulls should get a mention here. We suck as is right now, plus have 2 future 1sts owed. This time next year we can very well be handing over a top 10 pick for free. Might as well call us the Brooklyn Bulls

If the lakers cant trade Russ this offseason, theyre screwed for the next 2 years. thankfully, theyre in LA and theyre the lakers & should be able to attract talent no matter what

Being stuck in the middle treadmill team is way worse. You either want to be on the bottom or top. Off the top of my and I'm probably off but a team like the Hawks, borderline play in team is not where I would want to be.

It's always easy to pick the Magic because they'll find a way to keep screwing things up.

The Kings because when is the answer not the Kings? Their GM had internal expert knowledge of Luka and said “Nah, Marvin Bagley is our cornerstone”.

So, Kyrie Erving wants a long and very expensive contract, he wants to manage your team, and he thinks a coach is not required.
Personally I can't think of anything scarier than that for the future of a team.

Hawks have Trae, Hunter, okongwu, collins, all their picks including 1st from Charlotte.
No real albatross contracts (Collins maybe) and some
Big ones expiring.
Lot of youth and moveable pieces. Wouldn’t list the hawks here at all.

Re: Who is the worst positioned team for the rest of the decade?
I hate the lakers as much as the next guy and in terms of draft assets and assets in general they are lacking but they possess the single best asset in maybe all of the nba......Hollywood and a winning history.
Saying they are **** for a decade is just ignoring basically the history of the league in of itself. Bad ownership be damned there will always be another superstar who wants to be there. Once they get one another follows.

What is this LA can attract talent. It just isn't true. How many years did the Lakers miss the playoffs in a row, did they sign any big FA then? Before Lebron, no stars signed. After Lebron, you have to hope someone wants to play with AD, otherwise it's a team barely making the play in games

Re: Who is the worst positioned team for the rest of the decade?
Blazers warrant a mention.
We have an awful ownership with one foot out the door, an aging star with an uncertain trade value who can no longer raise our floor, an underwhelming mix of assets otherwise, and an "interim" GM who completely pooped the bed at the trade deadline and yet our apathetic ownership appears to still support.
Further mediocrity appears likely but we can't rule out becoming Kings-north either at this point.

On paper, I think it's hard to look worse than the Lakers do right now - in reality, they will get some big name players who want to play in LA, and mostl ikely be back in contention in a few years.

Re: Who is the worst positioned team for the rest of the decade?
The Knicks and Kings are only on this because of their history. Both teams actually have picks, assets, and not really any bad deals to stack against them.
Go Knicks!
