Re: 2021-2022 Post-Mortem: Jonathan Isaac
All you that voted trade just making sure you know we would have to give up a pick to get rid of him. The only choice is to hold on to him and see what happened this year and hope he can stay healthy and improve his value. It’s the only option. Maybe stretch him after next year if he gets injured again. It would be the dumbest move ever to stretch him and cut him this summer after paying him all through rehab
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

Re: 2021-2022 Post-Mortem: Jonathan Isaac
I would go about it as if he was not going to play and hope he can go 15-20 next season.
The Frontcourt is loaded as is.
Franz Wagner and Wendell Carter are definitely starting.
Chuma Okeke, Moritz Wagner (Magic likely pick up option) will be coming off the bench.
Then, there are questions?
Do The Magic get a high pick in The Lottery and take a big?
Do The Magic bring back Mo Bamba?
I don't really feel if Bol Bol and Robin Lopez possibly returning fact tie in with Jonathan Issac.
You see where Issac and the above two questions do though.
For now, let's hope The Lottery goes well and then hope Issac can play.
My feeling is he will come back and play well, if not, The Magic have salary protection.

do you really believe they would use the injury clause in his contract?

If he isn't healthy & playing this year they better use it. He's our biggest cap hit 17.5M and he hasn't played since August 2020. How long we going to wait for an injury prone player whose a cap hit when FA 23 could be a spot for us to add a quality player with 20-35M available
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

If he cannot play, they might.
My feeling though is that Issac will come back and play well.
Right before he got injured, I began to see some offensive flashes to his game as well in particular his shooting.

I am not too worried about his injury. I am worry about his durability and mental toughness in a long season.
I hope he can come back strong and become a DPOY candidate. I hope he does well. Can't wait...

WeltHam are trying to establish a "we care for our players" model as a point of difference, presumably a way of hopefully convincing our good players to resign and bigger ticket external players to sign. Personally, I'd have grave concerns about it's effectiveness, but that's for another day.
Triggering the injury clause would fly in the face of that strategy and on top of that point the gun squarely back at the FO for drafting him and then giving him a big deal.
Turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

not necessarily, as Isaac would still get all his money, i believe it just saves the team some cap hit

He hasn't played a game for 2 years and has had how many injuries at this point? It would be so easy for the FO to say dude is injury prone and we gave him 3+ years to work it out, unfortunately he couldn't stay healthy not our issue. I think as fans we think of every little thing possible when it's pretty obvious what matters to FA/players. How much $, What's my role, What's the roster & we making playoffs?
The FO job is to put together a roster to improve and win games & make playoffs. If anything I think a lot of the fanbase would be thrilled they actually cut bait and we got cap space to use vs having to wonder if Isaac will ever play a minute for Orlando again.

I've just given you what i think the FO will do, based on what they've gone on record saying. I didn't say i approved. I don't think about Isaac one way or another anymore. It's like having shares in some company that tanked but should have been a success. What's the point in dumping them but on the other hand the loss has long been written off and expectations for a turnaround are rock bottom...

He should be on minutes restriction for the first half of the season/till the all star break to be evaluated, and let his body prove itself and get used to the NBA game then if he's performing like his old self or enough to warrent starting put him in the starting lineup.
He shouldnt start to begin the season.

Re: 2021-2022 Post-Mortem: Jonathan Isaac
Not sure if this was posted yet but good news.
One thing to keep in mind is that there is no salary relief this season for Isaac unless the Magic are willing to waive him and stretch the guaranteed portion over the next seven seasons. However, because Isaac missed the entire season and failed to play at least 25 games this season, the guaranteed portion of his remaining contract has been reduced to $16 million in 2022-23, $7.4 million in 2023-24 and nothing in 2024-25.
If he doesn’t play this next year they could potentially waive him and only pay the 7.4M left vs 17.4M.

Every time I hear about Isaac’s contract everyone talks like it was a complete bust but they covered themselves with injury protection. We will see what happens this year he has to show something.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

So instead of $52.2M guaranteed left on his contract, Isaac has $23.4M guaranteed left on his contract.
Certainly gives the Magic some flexibility if he has another setback.

A very sad, lost young man.
Draft a big and move on. We don’t need or want that around what we are trying to build here.
Best of luck to him elsewhere.

Jesus. This Isaac situation sure has turned into a situation. Not sure we’ll ever see him play again.
Don’t know what to make of any of it. Figured the FO was holding him out for health and seeding, but that’s a lot of cheese for him to leave on the table. Maybe the FO made a deal with him to further guarantee some money.
I really thought he was going to be great. The gut punch of the injuries and everything else just hanging around. He was so good to start 19-20.
