What can you say about the officiating in this season's playoffs?

Post#1 » by KIRAG » Sat May 7, 2022 10:58 pm

It seems there are more complaints on the officiating this playoffs from almost every team than past playoffs. Are they more atrocious this season? Do you think the NBA is doing enough to keep them accountable?

I voted meh although it can in some instances affect the outcome. But overall there's a bit too much hooplah directed at officiating this year

no different from other years.
Missed calls, Superstar calls.

Nets fans complained that Celtics were able to be way more physical to KD than normal, now people complain Giannis can do whatever he can.

So, nothing different than any other year

I think a missing option in the poll needs to look at consistency, because there's been no consistency across games and how plays are called. Makes it really hard to watch and to play in when you're not sure how a call will go when the whistle blows.

Between Meh and Atrocious. Below Average.

The same thing I've been saying all long, in the NBA all rules are rubbery as ****. Every game you have to recalibrate in your head what is what and what is not, after you watch a few minutes and see what the particular ref is all about on that particular day.

The officiating has made me question whether if I even know what a foul is anymore. Too inconsistent at times.

Exactly this. There will be missed calls and wrong calls in games, that happens. But when one player is allowed to do something game after game and there is no calls and then when the other team does it and it’s a foul, then what are we to expect as fans?

It's worse than that. It's what a player might do one game, that he can't do the next. Consistency is even missing for the same player from game to game.

The only series i can remember drastically decided by the refs was the Lakers-Kings in '02. It was so obvious.
Ever since, it hasn't happened again.
If you play physical as a team you have to be able to take beating as well.
If your guys are fishing for fouls on 3s, you should be ready to face a team later on, that can do that better than you.
If you live on the free throw line, get ready to face a team that can do the same.
This happens every year and the fans keep falling for it.
I agree with one of the posts above regarding inconsistency on calls. That's an issue that they need to address in the off-season.
But fans should stop looking for excuses all the time.
It's the playoffs. There will be physicality, there will be missing calls.
You have 7 games to prove you're better.
It's not like you play a single game.
Could they do better? Of course. But they could do a lot worse too(see Lakers-Kings).

Pretty damn bad. The fact that calls are still wrong after reviews have me questioning hiw much is scripted or at least steered for certain outcomes.

Also, how many steps constitute a travel these days? Are push offs now a-okay?

It's never good, the way they call in the playoffs is shockingly different.

I’d say it’s being over officiated in large part to the coaches and players throwing them under the bus publicly.

Been god awful. Bucks and Celtics game a travesty. Game isn’t called consistently or equally.

Honestly, the refs haven't been that bad, but with that being said, I don't care nearly as much as I once did.

The only thing I can say with 100% certainty though that we will all agree on is this:

The NBA, and the NBA referee's have no idea how to consistently and accurately call a blocking foul/charge. This has to be one of those plays that gets blown at least 2-3 times a game, and I honestly don't know why.

I think now that the NBA has made the charge into a legitimate part of specific defensive sets, the NBA needs to get better at recognizing that. Too many times this playoffs I've seen solid D that funnels a ball handler right into someones chest, and either no call (which is honestly the correct call most of the time) or a block.

But yeah, overall the refs this year have low key been impressive compared to seasons past, but the NBA really needs to look at these blocking fouls

The rules are very clear, after you gather you are allowed 2 to 6 steps but if you put the ball on your nose like a seal you can run the length of the court because technically you don't have control of the ball.
Push offs clearly depends on the size of the player who does the pushing: little guys it's allowed, big guys it's not, medium guys it depends on the ref's bathroom scales.
