Opinion: With another ring, Curry overtakes Pippen as the GOAT Finals 2nd option

Post#1 » by Cubbies2120 » Sun May 8, 2022 10:05 pm

There is no questioning Curry's offensive prowess in the regular season. His '16 season is one of the greatest offensive seasons of all time, if not the greatest.

If he wins his 4th ring, especially with a Finals MVP to boot, he'll surpass Pippen as the GOAT 2nd banana (or 'bus passenger' though I'd argue he's more the front seat passenger making sure the GPS is going, but I digress).

4 rings, 1 FMVP > 6 rings, 0 FMVP

***Note: This is for Finals performances ONLY. I am in no way suggesting that Pippen holds a candle to Curry as an overall player***

Curry has always been the best player of the warriors, unless you think that Iggy was their best player in 2015

Btw,just look at the cavs defense vs KD in 2017...

He wasn't the best player when KD was there, he was the best player for the regular season Warriors, and the playoffs until they got to the Finals.

Yes, Iggy was the most important player in the '15 Finals. There's two sides to the game. Iggy was dominant on both ends.

Lue obviously doesn't know who the best player on the Warriors is too, right?

Clearly Curry overall was a better regular season / playoff player than Pippen but for some reason his numbers/play always suffered in the Finals.

One thing about Curry is that he just doesn't seem like a clutch guy IMO. He seems to do his best work when the team is ahead.

NBA.com clutch stats demonstrate this as well, over a significant sample size.

Could you please provide the list of players averaging 26.5 points per game, 5.7 rebounds per game, 6.5 assists per game, 1.5 steals per game on 60% TS in the NBA finals? If he is struggling, I guess the list will be a long one :D

Watching the game last night, Curry did nothing early in the game until the Warriors "others" got a nice lead. Then Curry kicked into gear.

Compare that to his regular season / playoffs (excluding Finals) stats, his numbers fall. Compare that to other bus drivers in the Finals.

Who cares about the comparison between his PS and RS numbers? From GOAT level player in the RS, he becomes just top 10-15 GOAT level player in the Finals... how does that compare to some role players?

I don't know what game you're watching but Steph has been making a conscious decision to get others going first before hunting for his points. Why do you want him to play out of control early on in the game when the game had not gotten out of hand? He spent most of the game letting the players around him get a touch of the ball and the game.

This thread is such a passive aggressive, back-handed compliment.

Steph is 2nd banana lol? Clearly 1st banana throughout this run. If anything KD was the one who was along for the ride

Not going to lie. I thought Steph sucked until the team (I think it was mostly backups) got the lead.

That's how I felt watching it. I could be wrong, but that was my impression.

Winning or not winning finals MVP has nothing to do what "what option" you are. Option is purely an offensive term and Curry has never been anything lower than ARGUABLY a 1b option. Horrible thread

I just know Curry's one of the best front-runners in history. Maybe the best.
When someone says, "to make a long story short", it's usually too late.

Pretty big stretch giving him the FMVP there OP. It's clearly Poole's to lose, especially if the series is close as it should be.
