I do like him in a similar role to what Prince played, which does have value to us, but overall I have him lower than a few other guys (Liddell and Williams being the main ones).
At this point two years ago, we wouldn't think McDaniels would help in defense ether.
I don't really like drafting to fill needs. It's what causes you to draft Johnson over Cousins, Dunn over Murray, Darko over Melo, etc.
You might not have. I did and from what I remember most scouting reports had McDaniels as a good defender, assuming his immaturity got worked out.
Which is the problem with Baldwin, his issues are both mental (poor rotations, gets lost easily) and physical (poor first step, doesn’t move well laterally, too skinny to play against bigs). Mental can be dealt with, though it’s no guarantee. But his physical limitations might leave him as the bad kind of tweener for the majority of his rookie contract.
As far as need vs BPA, I get that. But I’ve got both Liddell and Williams, among others, as better prospects than Baldwin.
I don’t hate the idea of picking him but he’s not a run to the podium guy either.
