Re: Nikola Jokic wins MVP(again)
He likely won’t ever win it again, but Jokic deserved it this year. It was one of the closest MVP races in history and all 3 guys were deserving, so this is far from a slap in the face of Embiid or Giannis.
But the Joker had a historical season, breaking the PER record and leading the league in a ton of Advanced Metrics while playing with far less talent than the other 2 guys, and he didn’t miss a bunch of games like they did either. He’s also the first player in NBA history with 2,000 pts, 100 rbs, & 500 assists in a season (!!). Well-deserved win for Jokic tbh.
I got Embiid winning it next year, fwiw. Just has to stay healthy.

Re: Nikola Jokic wins MVP(again)
Wrong. Most MVP candidates don’t lose their 2nd & 3rd best players for the entire season. As a matter of fact, it’s never happened before. This year is the exception for a 6-seed winning MVP, not the norm.

Most MVP candidates don't have their teammates try to sabotage the season and come up with fake stories about why they can't play.Castle Black wrote:Jokic won’t ever win it again, but he deserved it this year. Because the NBA has not given a definition of MVP, so for all we know it might be "who do you think has the best chances of winning in the playoffs after you vote".
No definition = you can't blame anyone for creating their own.
Giannis was denied his 3rd in a row partly because of the narrative he couldn’t win in the playoffs, if I remember correctly.

Who had more regular season wins this year, Jokic or Embiid?
PS. I’m referring to games where they played > 0 minutes respectively.
I also think Dr. J, Sixers LEGEND, knows a little more than us too, maybe?

Masked Embiid will detonate tomorrow night in Miami.

Then maybe just maybe the people who actually voted for the award know more about basketball than you? Food for thought

I love how Perk and Antoan are analyst now. If I remebmer corectly they were never in the NBA because of high basketball IQ. How to explain to Walker word efficiency?

Most MVP candidates also don’t throw their teammates under the bus for losing a series where they went 0-12 in a 2nd half in a game.
Also Simmons just had back surgery, it’s a little different than a thumb injury or small facial fracture. It literally impacts your movement. Didn’t Embiid sit for two whole seasons because he had injuries that impacted his movement?

Embiid is not real MVPJoker beat him in almost every category. Learn to read the stats before posting.
Can't blame Embiid fans for not having time to deep dive the stats. They still have actual games to watch

I knew as soon as people stopped posting MVP odds that Jokic had it locked up
it was daily updates in the MVP thread for a while and then it got reeeeal quiet

Honestly, look at these terrible postseason numbers.
If you're going to have twice as many MVPs as Shaq or Kobe I'm gonna hold you to a pretty high standard. Stats aren't enough. Great regular season player
So you think Shaq and/or Kobe could have taken a team with Will Barton and Aaron Gordon as their next best options to the 2nd round?
Umm...yes? Kobe took a starting lineup consistenting of Kwame freaking Brown, Smush Parker, Luke Walton, and an inconsistent injury prone Lamar Odom to the playoffs for two straight seasons. He would have KILLED to have those two guys for support.
Shaq is tough to say because we've never seen him on a team with legitimately a scrub team otherwise. He's always had someone like Anthony Hardaway, Kobe, Wade, Nash/Amare, etc.

They had all year as they were posting MVP odds in the MVP thread almost daily.
They could have spent the final 20 mins of the game last night doing the analysis because Embiid didn’t score a FG during that time

Re: Nikola Jokic wins MVP(again)
It's the destiny of Embiid: lost the ROY to Brogdon because you know...availability is skill.
LOL. Fast forward 5 years later: Joel is a MVP candidate, Brogdon is salary dump candidate.
Now he lost the MVP because RAPTOR and PER matter are skills.
Ok, I colud be a biased Sixers' fan but I won't trade EMbiid for Jokic and a 1st. Expecially this year.
Imho the Embiid's gravity is greater than Jokic's.

Probably not, given Walker's well deserved reputation for being a dumb player and taking horrible shots any chance he got.

In both cases, they lost in the 1st round.
Odom was better than either of those two guys.

Re: Nikola Jokic wins MVP(again)
Great season for the MVP race with a fully deserved winner. Next year could be even more exciting as well, with these 3 guys plus the possibility of KD, Luka, Tatum etc having more consistent seasons.

Indeed. It's the same reason we can't blame people for picking Trae, Ja, Luka, Edwards, Poole, Ayton, Barnes over Lamelo as young prospects. These guys have actually played in the playoffs.
