Jokic is an amazing player and at the end of the day there isn't much difference between the best in the league, but it's awkward.

Comparing the Westbrook MVP to Jokic MVP is laughable.

Jokic put up efficient numbers that pretty much only prime LeBron and prime Shaq matched.

In 2016-17, the year Westbrook won MVP, there were 5 players who had better RAPTOR (advanced stat) scores than he had. Russ also had a negative defensive RAPTOR.

Jokic had the best RAPTOR in NBA history (as far as I can tell) this year.

Big difference.

I love Russ, but he won the award because of the triple double average. I'm glad he won it, and it was an amazing year, but Jokic's year is about as good as it gets all-time.

In the same tweet you attempt to discredit stats that show Jokic in a good light, you inadvertently discredit Embiid as well.

TS% is one of the things that keeps Embiid in the conversation for top 25 center of all time.

If we use FG% instead he’s nowhere to be found with no accolades to his name. For example he’s closer to iverson FG% territory than he is to Shaq/Jokic territory in the playoffs.

Shhh don’t tell them the facts. They only want the fabricated stats from Sixers blog posts

I think we can all agree that a couple more regular season wins is far more important than any post season success. /green font

For a regular season award? Yes

Postseason success (which Jokic actually has had more than Embiid) is meaningless here

I’m glad you agree that a regular season award should be judged by results in the regular season.

Finally, it’s getting through to people!

If Embiid makes it into the Finals he will have more postseason success than Jokic though, so let’s see!

You do realize Embiid plays the same position, right?

And that Nick Wright video was a good laugh. First of all, nobody is making a case for Jokic with those boxscore-derived metrics. And even if you want to use them, you need to apply context to your analysis. Filter by usage rate and games played and all of a sudden you stop getting role players ranking ahead of stars.

Can we at least name it properly?

The NBA Regular Season League MVP?

Forget the advanced metrics for a minute and look at the team and season. Jokic did an amazing job with this team. Definitely didn't have a Maxey, Harris, Seth Curry or James Harden.

Personally, I think Embiid should have won because he's the better defender, but Jokic had an amazing season. He was certainly deserving.

It’s always been a regular season award. As have every other award aside from Finals MVP. It’s the same for all the Major sports btw

No need to dumb it down for those of you who fail to understand

Embiid is more midrange/ perimiter oriented, hence the lower FG%.

Other tweets I included mention problems as well, not just Nick Wright. The question was what stats over inflate rebounds and assists. I provided that to you guys.

The problem isn't only that he lost two years in a row in the 1st round.

He won only 1 game. And he didn't have any historically good game, where you could say he did everthing he could but lost because of his teammates.

That's pretty bad for a guy who is supposed to be clearly the best player in the game.

Jokic had a better season than Giannis.

Sure, if you dont watch games. Sorry, MVP's dont get subbed out on D because they are fat and cant breath.

Isn't it easier just to say I don't watch Jokic play? Jokic has not been fat since 2020 bro.

First, he did not lose two years in a row in the 1st round.

Second, the rest of the post is just parroting nonsense you heard somewhere.

Denver would be in the second round if they played the lowly Raptors in round one.
Philly would be gone fishin' if they played the mighty Warriors in round one.
To use the first round of the playoffs as a measuring stick for MVP is silly.
Jokic was clearly the superior player, and he deserved the award.
Well done, Bosnian Big Bird.

 This thread... where people seem confused why a regular season award doesnt use current and active playoff data when judging the award.

He actually won a series last year with Austin Rivers and Facu Campazzo as his starting backcourt. Neither is a lock to be in the league next year. And he dropped 37/18/5, 37/8/6, and 30/19/8 in the the last three games of the Warriors series this year. Embiid has about three games in his entire playoff career that compare to those three games.
