Jokic is 3rd this season in wins among MVP candidates

Post#1 » by BelgradeNugget » Tue May 10, 2022 2:50 pm

There was a lot of discussion on RG about winning. Which player won more games? So I decided to look for it on nba.com. I used two criteria. 1st is ppg>22 to single out players who are generally considered top of the league. The other criteria is a little harder to understand for some people. A little bit advanced. It says "for player X to be rewarded with winning game, he must first participate in the game". Sorry if this is a little hard for some to understand. Here is the list of players and wins by their teams in games they played.

1. Devin Booker 56
2. Jayson Tatum 49
3. Nikola Jokic 46
4. Giannis Antetokounmpo 45
5. Joel Embiid 45
6. Stephen Curry 45
7. Karl-Anthony Towns 44
8. Luka Doncic 44
9. DeMar DeRozan 43
10. Jaylen Brown 43

This is the funniest part about people complaining. Jokic literally won more games, played more games, and performed better than Embiid and Giannis.

this is one of those no brainer MVPs.

dunno why people complain, but Jokic deserves every bit of that MVP award.

yeah this. I get that Embiid has had a fantastic season, I think he's the second best player in the world. Thought Jokic for what he had and how he pulled Denver all season was remarkable.

we gotta stop conflating best player with production in this discussion. jokic did the most stuff the most often and was there for enough wins to get the most award. I dont think hes better than giannis joel luka kd or bron, but its pretty obvious that hes supposed to get that trophy based on output and production.

Jokic made the Nuggets a playoff team. He also puts up triple doubles.

He deserved mvp. As did embiid. Embiid the more dominant player. Jokic is massively productive though

Does this account for the fact Embiid played 6 less games than Jokic??

Because if not, Embiid EASILY wins at least a couple more games (if not more) & it would be a flawed stat at best.

Unless Embiid was beat up by Jokic (or someone else above Embiid in the list) so he couldn't play in those 6 games, I'm not seeing a connection. :P

It's not hard if you don't put your blinders on lol...

If Embiid plays the same amount of games it's INCREDIBLY likely he wins more games which defeats the purpose of pointing out who won more games. Unless you're a poster that believes Karl Malone was a greater scorer than Michael Jordan because he had more overall points without the context that Jordan played less games?! lol yeah it matters and yes it's flawed.

If they won at the same % that they did with Embiid playing over the course of the season, the Sixers would have won 3 more games (of the 14 games he missed). Coincidentally, that's the exact same number of extra wins the Nuggets would have won out of the 8 games Jokic missed, if they had won them at the same rate with Jokic playing during the rest of the year.

The great defense along with the offense.

But I think Jokic should have won.

“If guy who gets injured every year played in more games, he would have a better case for MVP.”

Yeah, no ****. What point are you even trying to make? If Embiid had played in more games last year, he might have won then too. But he didn’t, and that stuff matters in these discussions.

Durability always was and will be an advantage for Jokic and historically its very significant for winning Mvp in the 1st place.
