Next please

Something we haven’t seen in 22 years means something.

Jokic put up a stat line that has never been done before, not one time in 75 years, so no 22 years means nothing.

Great now it goes back to my original argument the MVP award was never based solely on stats until this year. So going forward should the award be given to the player who had the best statistical season?

The award is not called MVCenter, why disqualify guards and wings?

And the MVP isn’t the MVStat award either but here we are.

Its not the MVFeels either, which seems to be why people are acting like petulant children over Jokic winning a regular season award.

Without mentioning or comparing Giannis and Jokic. What made Embiids Season "one of the best seasons of all time" and deserving the MVP Award? He has the Scoring Title. Thats it. Basically. What else?

First big since Shaq to win the scoring title.

Scoring title with 37.2 usg% and below average shooting is far from impressive. Such players are often called "ball hogs". There are many players who could win the scoring title if they were chasing awards.

If you are just reading the complaints in this thread and had no idea about the actual team records, you'd think Embiid's team won 20 games more than Jokic when it was only 3. And Jokic actually played in more wins than Embiid, though his win percentage in the games played was slightly lower.

People smartened up about high usage rate and correlation to points nowadays.

it has always been a combination of things.
the only reason Jokic won it with just 48 wins is that the other two top candidates only won 51 games.
had sixers gone for like 55w there would have been no discussion, but unfortunately it was not the case.

MVP Westbrook says "Hi". That was way more of a case of an award based on stats.

So the other candidates get penalized for only winning 3 more games? These reasons sound stupid.

He won based on averaging a triple double

Who was your MVP this year? Chris Paul? Devin Booker?

Yeah, missed shots are a modern advanced stat for nerds.

Last time people thought ball hogs who score the most points are best players was like 70 years ago.

Honestly, look at these terrible postseason numbers.

If you're going to have twice as many MVPs as Shaq or Kobe I'm gonna hold you to a pretty high standard. Stats aren't enough. Great regular season player

What does winning a regular season MVP have anything to do with post season success?

They should really have separate awards for regular and post season. Oh wait.

So then what's the argument for Embiid? He had better teammates, less games missed by the 76ers, and yet only won 3 more games than Jokic and the Nuggets.

What? People talked about usage rate all the time back then, which is why both of them did not win more MVPs.
