They slowed the game down and forced the Suns into a half court game. Kobe acted as a decoy which allowed Kwame/Odom to take advantage of mismatches inside. Even though Kwame wasn’t very skilled and didn’t really have a big man offensive game. He had a size advantage with Amare gone which allowed him to get easy opportunities.

The series shifted in game 5 when the pace picked up. And the Suns adjusted their game plan to pick up the pace and Kwame/Odom became less effective inside. Because of the adjustments, Kobe attempted to hero ball the Lakers to a series win in game 6. Which he nearly succeeded at with 50 points on 20/35 shooting. The Lakers were 10 seconds away from advancing. The Lakers lost with Tim Thomas pump faking Kwame then taking advtange by knocking in a game tying 3.

If a smarter defender contested Tim Thomas. The Lakers are probably playing the Clippers in 2nd round.
