If we lose Miles to free agency, we have like 8 million to spend on a free agent. I just see no way that letting him walk is a good move.

Agreed. We will either resign him, match an offer sheet or sign and trade him.

Miles would be a good starting point.

He'll be back. But I'm afraid the ripple effect of his contract is bad news for keeping PJ, who was great last 2 months or so. And Terry, and GH.

Just MHO, but Miles > Terry > GH > PJ. Miles also has the better relationship with Melo.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Miles is arguably our best player right now, he is a must keep.

I like Terry, but I would move him if the right deal came along. Obviously same for Gordon.

If I could move Gordon for two rotation players on decent contracts I would in a heartbeat. Especially if they were half way decent on defense.

Miles isn't a must keep on a max deal

let's qualify that.

Giving him a max is arguably as bad as letting him walk for nothing.

I'd argue that even a mediocre S&T is better than a max deal

Mikal Bridges who is arguably a better player than Miles signed for 4 years 90 million. That's about where I'm comfortable at.

Like I said a while ago, Miles isn't worth a max contract. But we don't really have a choice but to keep him. We aren't getting a better player, unless it's a double sign and trade. I'd be pretty tempted to trade him for Ayton.

And we definitely need to trade Rozier or Gordon. I'd rather keep PJ on a solid 3/40 contract than have Gordon miss half the season and Rozier not play defense for the rest of their contracts.

I'd help him pack myself for Ayton

Dude is 23, has gotten better every season, without him we are a bottom 5 team essentially and starting from scratch with blah contracts and LaMelo.

People get too caught up in the money aspect of guys when
A. the cap goes up every year, so each year after people are going to be signing for more and more and his contract becomes a better deal each year
B. It's going to cost just as much to sign anyone who is as good as he is
C. His max isn't 50 million or whatever John Wall gets. He will probably get somewhere in the 4/100 range from another team and then Charlotte matches and calls it a day.

Ayton is good, but he also plays with Chris Paul, who make every big guy he plays with look significantly better.

I would honestly rather have Bridges, can create his own shot. More versatile and can build more lineups around him, gets to the free throw line more and him and LaMelo already have great chemistry.

There's not a chance this deal is less than 5/140. This is the Hornets, who gave stunningly huge contracts to Hayward and Rozier lately. I've come to expect that whatever I'm expecting, add 10-20 percent.

Its more about what other teams can offer him and not so much what we can offer him. Most another team can offer is 4 years if we let him hit free agency. Wouldn't shock me if Hornets did give him 5 years, but it would probably be a discounted AAV and not the full 5/173 Max he is eligible for.

This happens every year btw... Oh this team is going to MAX him or this guy... how many times did we hear that with John Collins last year?

Then he signed for what 5/125?

I'm not saying I would or wouldn't but he might get an offer around 140 over 4.

I am pretty sure we can offer 5/173, another team can offer him 4/130 ish.

Again, we do this every year thinking a Max is always going to happen, I keep seeing 25-30 mil a year for Miles in the media. Which I am fine with.
