"Working the refs" might have some value if you're discriminating in when you choose to employ it. This guy crying after every game just makes him hard to take seriously

A manager who throws his staff under the bus in public will have a staff retention problem. Honesty isn't always a virtue. There is a reason the phrase "praise in public and criticize in private" exists.

Public criticism is needed sometimes but as Churchill said about war so too with public criticism "For your staff, truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies.
