Sixers 2022 offseason thread: Run it back edition(but for real this time)

Post#1 » by FireMorey » Fri May 13, 2022 1:31 am

The Sixers didn't run it back a few years ago and made that mistake. This time they need to do it.

Congrats to the Sixers on a great season. They fought through a lot and I thought played well. They obviously need some work to do to get back to that next level. Were only a couple games out of the #1 seed. People tend to overrate smaller playoff sample sizes. I don't think the Sixers need to do a ton. What I'd do:

1. Re-sign Harden.
2. Bring back Doc Rivers
3. Try to get someone like Beal or LaVine in a sign and trade for Harris. If not, keep Harris.
4. Upgrade bench with shooters and athletes.
5. Use Danny Green's expiring in trade and get something for Thybulle. See if anyone will take Korkmaz.
6. Try and stay healthy and keep Harden in the gym all summer.

Go Sixers

Man, don't suggest the top three. That's too depressing to consider.

Harden has got to go. There’s no way anybody who wants to win a championship would want to play with him.

Dude looks washed. I would be extremely worried about giving him a long deal. He clearly doesn’t care about taking care of his body to have an extended prime.

They're over the cap even if he leaves. So you're basically just subtracting him for nothing. Dumb.

Point number 2 is how you alienate a fanbase.

He was present in the second half for one game out of the 12 in the playoffs.

Addition by subtraction.

This same fan base thought a Sixers team that let Butler go and signed Horford were a championship contender. I argued with many who said I was being a hater. Now, don't see them laughing now.

This fan base can be really dumb at times. Overreacts to losses, then buys whatever the team does every offseason.

Gotta take emotion out of it and think with logic. If Doc goes, you're getting D'Antoni. A guy who's won nothing and will build an offense around James Harden and probably alienate Embiid.

How the Sixers performed when he was out of the game these playoffs says otherwise.

James Harden is not close to Jimmy Butler at this point. Wouldn't it be better to hopes Harden walks and trade Harris into cap space and fix the disjointed top heavy roster with athletic players that fit around Embiid and Maxey.

Step 1: Give us less hope because this team is doomed. Time to go for young picks tbh. This core is overpaid and a total mess.

1. Keep Embiid
2. Keep Maxey
3. Keep Embiid
4. Probably keep Tobias. I'd be open to trading him - I just don't think there's a strong enough trade market for him. He's more valuable playing for us than he would be in a trade.
5. Replace Glenn? Seems unlikely, though.
6. Get the best 3 & D piece we can for the 5th starter. Hopefully better than Danny Green, but re-sign him if we don't have a better option.
7. Solve the backup center problem. Don't sign anyone unless we are 110% positive they are better than Bassey.

1) replace Glenn

2) get 2 3&D wings using tMLE and by trading Thybulle, Green, Shake, Kork, Joe, Springer, etc.

3) get a backup PG with size

4) resign Harden for less than expected

5) let Bassey and Reed play, try Reed as a starter, Bassey as the primary backup C

Doc only leaves if he wants to go IMO.

Harden will be back next year regardless IMO.

So those two things aren't worth arguing over.

We are stuck with Harden and Tobi.

The rest of the roster is doomed. There isn’t enough flexibility talent, depth, picks, or salary wise to make any moves that will make a real difference. We are likely looking as replacing Green with another semi washed vet and maybe add 1 more guy with whatever exception we can use. And probably whatever C is available for the minimum

Green + Korkmaz + 2nd rounders traded for a 1/2 decent vet making 12-15 mil(or so). We’ll say KCP for giggles.

Sign a C for minimum…we’ll say Tristan Thompson

And we need a 2/3 that can shoot on whatever exception we can use…best case Bryne Forbes

Harden
Maxey
KCP
Tobi
Jo

Thybulle
Shake
Reed
Thompson
Forbes
Springer

That honestly feels like a positive outlook on what could happen and I wouldn’t feel good about that roster at all. Hopefully Morey sees a way out that my dumb fan self doesn’t
