as of right now my championship favorites go

healthy bucks>celtics>suns, heat and warriors > mavs

but the gaps are small enough between each tier, i wouldnt discard heat beating bucks or dallas winning a ring

i think i got

bucks > warriors
bucks =suns
suns = warriors
bucks > heat
suns > heat
boston > heat
boston = suns
boston > warriors
mavs = heat
warriors > mavs
boston > mavs
bucks > mavs

or somethingh like that, i see mavs as underdog with puncher chance in all series but specially vs heat

will be interesting to see the championship odds after tomorrow.

right now it's warriors +175, suns +300, celtics +425, heat +450, bucks +900, mavs +2500. but obviously the warriors/heat already clinching CF appearances vs the other teams playing a G7 is a pretty significant confounding variable there

although it is telling that the suns and celtics, two teams that could be eliminated tomorrow, are given better championship odds than the heat.

Suns/Celtics need to be lower. Already being in the CF is a huge huge advantage for the Warriors/Heat. Warriors still well too high. Heat/Bucks fine bets, Mavs clearly the best bet at those odds.

i think it's mostly because the bucks enter g7 as 5 point underdogs so they're not really expecting them to make it out of the second round let alone win the finals

they also might not be as confident in middleton's return? that's just conjecture on my part though.

Anyone else think a Bucks-Warriors Finals would be the narrative child of 2013 Heat-Spurs?

random thought: giannis gives me the same feeling of inevitability that lebron did. like i don't care if the celtics have looked like the better team this series and middleton's still out and boston's at home and are 5 point favorites with an elite defense. it's g7 and giannis feels almost like a shoe-in for 40 + elite defense tomorrow. he can be 0/6 from 3 entering the 4th quarter and i'll expect him to somehow hit the key shot to tie the game.

The trend has been each generation the NBA loosens up the travel/carry rules. The most recent loosening has resulted in players being able to go from the 3 point line to the rim on one bounce.

I don't think that one was down to a loosening of the rules though. Even in 2022 that's just a blown call.

The footwork on some of these step-backs on the other hand... :-?

You can literally run with the ball with your hand underneath it from the 3 point line to the rim and it be considered a live dribble. I saw Giannis take one dribble from a standing start at the half-court line and end up right at the rim.

The currently overly loose travel/carry rule will allow players to occassionally go from the 3 point line to the lane on one bounce as blown calls will always be part of the game. Given the NBA's history eventually what we saw there will be the standard in 2035.

We really should go back to 1970s officiating and that's not sarcastic post.

I'll be the guy then who really wants the Dallas/Miami rubber match. :nod: :nod: :nod:

Well, I wouldn't be that concerned with this finals! Certainly cooler than Warriors vs Celtics :banghead:

haha i mean i still agree with the celtics being favorites.. just feel like giannis is gonna get his 40 points and make it a close game and it'll just come down to whether the supporting cast steps up

I know it's a blown call and all, but I find myself thinking more and more that the NBA needs to be specifically thinking hard about how best to officiate Giannis. He's not the first guy like this - it does tend to happen when talking about physical outliers - but at the very least, they need to disincentive him from launching himself directly into opposing players at full force.

The play that injured Williams, if you showed it to someone who knew nothing about basketball, they'd say the foul should be on the guy who injured the other guy by proactively choosing to assault the injured guy. We basketball people look like fools when we tie ourselves in pretzels explaining why the offensive player can strategically hurt defenders unless the the defenders are in "legal guarding position".
